EXODUS CHAPTER FIFTEEN ---------------------- Verse 1, From this verse down through verse 19 is the first song recorded in the scripture. Pink says that this song has been titled, "The Song of Redemption." We also read in Revelation about a new song: Compare Re 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; Re 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous [are] thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true [are] thy ways, thou King of saints. Pink says that there are two great elements in Redemption: 1) by purchase 2) by power Redemption therefore is somewhat different from ransoming though they are usually thought to be the same. Ransoming is but a part of redemption. The two are distinguished in the scripture but are closely related. Compare: very clear in Eph 1:14 Ho 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes. Jer 31:11 For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of [him that was] stronger than he. ( in this verse the order is the same as Ho 13:14, yet the KJV translator reversed ransom and redeem ) Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Ransoming is the payment of the price; redemption is the deliverance of the people for whom the price was paid. Without final deliverance there will be no new song of praise. In Heb 11:35 the Greek word for redemption was translated deliverance. Heb 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: ( deliverance at the payment of a price, that is accepting the terms of the persecutors ) Pink says that praise and joy are part of worship. He says that it is impossible for unbelievers, those who are dead in trespasses and sins to worship truly. Yet, intelligent worship cannot be rendered by professing Christians who are uncertain and question their acceptance in the Beloved. Listen to: Ps 106:12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise. To sing His praise we must believe (trust) in His words. First TRUST and then your life is cleaned up. "THEN sang Moses and the children of Israel this song": When? After they were delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians and they saw them dead on the shore, that's when. In Isaiah 54 Israel will again sing when they by faith take hold on their redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ. When Israel was in the house of bondage they "sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried..." (Ex 2:23); but now they sang the song of praise. But according to Psalm 106:13 after singing this song they soon forgot his works and waited not for his counsel. How often we do the same! We forget from where the Lord has brought us, the bondage we were once in, only to complain about the present situation. Two great things had provided this great change in Israel; first, the blood of the lamb, and second, the power of the LORD. WHAT WAS THE NATURE OF THEIR SONG? It was ENTIRELY about Jehovah. Not only did they sing to the LORD but they sang about Him. It was ALL concerning the LORD and what He had done and NOTHING about themselves. The word "LORD" occurs 12 times in 19 verses. The pronouns "He," "Him," "Thy," "Thou," and "Thee" are found 33 times in the same 19 verses. How songs of today tell of how we love God instead of how He first loved us. This is because they have changed the love of God from a particular love to a general love for all of mankind. They tell more of human attainments instead of Christ's atoning work (after all that is not what made the difference, they think). Notice the first words of the song were not that they were safe, but that the LORD had "triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea." They were not in the picture, but ONLY the deliverer. The theme of this song is what the LORD hath done!!!!!! In overthrowing Israel's enemies, which were God's enemies, He glorified Himself. Look at verse 6 and 7. Notice "against thee" and not "against us." Verse 2, "The LORD [is] my strength and song" Neh 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for [this] day [is] holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength. We see joy and strength in connection. It is when we have joy of our salvation that we live holy lives. "he is become my salvation" It was not until they were delivered from the hand of enemy that they could truly say that the Lord was their salvation. Ex 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. "He [is] my God, and I will prepare him an habitation" Fellowship is what is expressed here. They desired that Jehovah dwell in their midst. One day the full realization of this will be brought to fruition. Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Verse 3, "The LORD [is] a man of war: the LORD [is] his name." How this aspect of God is ignored today. God is love, but He is also light and holy and thus hates sin. Because He is righteous He must punish sin, either in a substitute or in the sinner. It was God's enemies that He had judged and not theirs, though they were their enemies also. He judged Egypt in righteousness, not simply because He was trying to free Israel. Compare: After the destruction of Babylon and the plagues. Rev 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 2 For true and righteous [are] his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. Their meaning of these words is perfectly clear, because we read in the next verses: Ex 15:4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. 5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. 6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy. 7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, [which] consumed them as stubble. Pink says that many moderns have condemned Israel for this song as "vindictive glee", saying that such a concept of the Lord would only come from the most ferocious of the Barbarians. If this were true then why do we see the saints in heaven singing the song of Moses (this song). Compare Rev 15:3. Re 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous [are] thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true [are] thy ways, thou King of saints. Verses 1-19, The song 1) That their strength was entirely in the LORD and not themselves. Their redemption was of the LORD. 2) It was a song of praise and joy in which Jehovah was entirely the one in focus. 3) It showed the LORD to be a man of war. That this aspect of the LORD showed forth His glorious power and the greatness of His excellency. 4) The perfect ease with which He made a way of escape for Israel, while they seemed to be hemmed in. Ex 15:8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, [and] the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. 5) The song also sets forth the perfect ease with which the LORD overthrew His enemies. Ex 15:9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. 10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. There was no all-day battle! 6) How different the LORD of scripture is from the gods of men's imaginations. Ex 15:11 Who [is] like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who [is] like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful [in] praises, doing wonders? Pink says, "How entirely different is the LORD -- omnipotent, immutable, sovereign, triumphant -- from the feeble, changeable, disappointed and defeated 'god' which is the object of 'worship' in thousands of the churches!" How few praise Him for HOLINESS and His FEARFULNESS. 7) The people are led forth in mercy. Ex 15:13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people [which] thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided [them] in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. Notice the ones led forth are the ones He redeemed. Notice they were guided in THY STRENGTH. They were effectually guided. Unto thy holy habitation - they were brought unto God This is the position of all believers in Jesus Christ. 1Pe 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might BRING US TO GOD, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: ( might does not mean maybe-so ) 8) God will strike fear in the hearts of His enemies. READ verses 14-16. We know this did happen: Rahab declared to the two spies. Jos 2:9 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. 10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for YOU, when YE came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that [were] on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. ( Yet these men were not back there, but their fathers, so the promise of God did not fail because of the disobedience of the fathers. ) The Gibeonites said to Joshua. Jos 9:8 And they said unto Joshua, We [are] thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who [are] ye? and from whence come ye? 9 And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt, 9) What God started at the Red Sea He would finish in the Promised Land. The enemies of God and of His people would not overcome them and prevent them from entering in. 2Co 1:10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver [us]; Ro 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ... 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 10) The LORD shall reign forever and ever - The end of the song Pink says that verse 19 is the inspired record of the historian , giving us the cause and the occasion of the song. Faith looks forward into eternity. It sees that their will be no time in which the LORD God will not reign. There has never been a time in the past and there will never be a time in the future that the LORD God will not reign supreme. He will NEVER be overthrown. We can by faith trust in that truth. He is a Holy, righteous, loving and merciful God that we can call Father, who has redeemed us by His grace and who will ALWAYS be there. Verses 20-21, Some have questioned Miriam leading in this song in the light of the New testament concerning the position of women in the New Testament church. The difficulty is only imaginary, because the verse shows that she led the women; "and ALL THE WOMEN went out after her with timbrels and with dances." Verses 22, After passing through the Red Sea and witnessing the one of the greatest miracles recorded in the Bible Moses brought them 3 days journey into the wilderness. Shur = "wall" The wilderness - Pink says that it is God's purposed to bring those whom He has redeemed with precious blood through the wilderness before they enter into the promised inheritance. he journey through the wilderness, with its trials and testings, will make manifest the evil of our hearts and the incurable corruption of the flesh; the end result, our being humbled and totally dependent upon sovereign grace for entrance into that inheritance, seeing that there is NO worthiness or good thing in us. We not only see that God led them into the wilderness but that while they were there, God was with them and God was for them. The wilderness - This is the first time that we see Israel IN the wilderness. Back in Ex 13:18 they were led "about the way of the wilderness" and then in verse 20 we see that they encamped "in the edge of the wilderness" but were never IN the wilderness. It is their passage through the Red Sea that has brought them through the wilderness. The passage through the Red Sea is typical or speaks of the believers union with Christ in His death and resurrection, of which baptism also pictures. Remember it was the redeemed only who were baptized in the Red Sea. It afforded the Egyptians nothing. Ro 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection: Immediately after going through the Red Sea they went 3 days journey. Three days speaks of the resurrection of Christ. many scriptures tell us that after 3 days Christ arose from the dead. So after they were redeemed and then were in union with Christ's death and resurrection they find themselves in the wilderness. So too the one who has been redeemed by Jesus Christ and has been given repentance and faith and has been united with Christ in His death and resurrection finds that the world he once loved and felt at home in has become a wilderness. It offers much to the natural man, but to the spiritual man there is only vanity and vexation of spirit. The eye of faith looks around and sees nothing but death written across the whole scene. So far as spiritual life is concerned, the world is simply a wilderness - barren and desolate. The wilderness is a place for travelers, who are going from one country to another, and no one in their right mind would think of making his home there. This is precisely how the believer feels about this world. No one but a madman would think of making his home in this world's present system. It is only the place through which man journeys from time to eternity. It is strictly temporary!! It is faith which makes the difference in the way men view and regard this present world. The unbeliever is content to remain here and to settle in with the way things are. He settles down as though he is to stay here forever. READ Ps 49:1-11 Far different it is with the true believer. He looks "for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and make is God" (Heb 11:10). Therefore he must confess with the patriarches that he is but a stranger and pilgrim on the earth. (Heb 11:13). Canaan land was the country which God had promised and gave to Abraham and his seed and the wilderness was simply a strange land through which they made pilgrimage on their way to the land of inheritance. "and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water" - Water is essential for life. A man can go some time without food, but only a short time without water. Here in the wilderness there was no water. The lesson is that there is nothing in this world which can in anyway minister to the new life that we have in Christ Jesus. There is absolutely nothing around the believer in this world which can refresh his thirsty soul. Listen to the Psalmist: <> Ps 63:1 O God, thou [art] my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; Ps 143:6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul [thirsteth] after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah. But Christ is the giver of the water of life. Joh 6:37 In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Joh 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. Joh 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Other scriptures: Isa 12:3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. Isa 41:17 [When] the poor and needy seek water, and [there is] none, [and] their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. Isa 41:18 I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. Isa 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: Isa 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Jer 2:13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, [and] hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. ( We see that Jehovah was the fountain or source of living waters, and we see in also in the NT that Jesus is this same fountain ) Verse 23, Marah = "bitter" The waters of the wilderness were bitter. The things which once gave pleasure and satisfied now to the believer are but bitter waters. How often we expect God to make the wilderness journey easy and pleasurable, but if he did this we would be at home here. Our tendency is to murmur and complain when things arise and confront us. They had just witnessed a great deliverance from Pharaoh's armies and now only three days journey they are in need of water. Many Christians start out expecting a wonderful journey through this world, but find the opposite true. Pink says, "I ought to start my wilderness journey expecting nothing but dearth. If we expect peace instead of persecution, that which will make us merry rather than cause us to groan, disappointment and disheartenment at not having our expectations realized, will be our portion." God never promised us happiness in this world, but we can have joy in the midst of trials and tribulations. We may not always have happiness, but we can always have joy. The start of the wilderness journey is the it is Marah (bitter). Verse 24, "And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? " Three days ago this same people were singing the song of redemption and dancing in the way, and now three days hence they are murmuring. Praising at the red Sea gives way to complaining at Marah. But before we condemn them let us remember that we do the same. Noticed that they murmured against Moses as if they had forgotten that the Pillar of Cloud had led them here. But there murmuring against Moses was in reality a murmuring against the LORD. And so too it is with us. Every complaint against the weather, about the way people treat us, our job situation, the daily trials of life, are but complaints against the One who "worketh all things after the counsel of His own will." (Eph 1:11). They murmured because their eye was upon the situation and not upon the LORD of the situation. Notice in this verse the LORD does not enter the picture but rather Moses. THEY BLAMED MOSES. We do the same. We get mad at people around us who have put us into some situation. We complain about management at work. Yes, we blame everyone and everything around us for the bitter waters, all the while failing to see God's sovereign hand in all things. Verse 25, "And he cried unto the LORD" -- Moses did what Israel should have done. He cried unto the Lord and took the matter to the LORD in prayer. There was certainly a need and the situation was troubling. But instead of murmuring they should have cried unto the LORD for help in their time of need. He had delivered them at the Red Sea, or had they forgotten? Ps 107:4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. 5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6 THEN they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses. Ps 107:11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: 12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and [there was] none to help. 13 THEN they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses. Ps 107:17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. 18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. 19 THEN they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saveth them out of their distresses. Ps 107:24 These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. 25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. 26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. 28 THEN they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. 29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. "and the LORD shewed him a tree, [which] when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet" The LORD came to their relief. Ps 103:10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. The LORD responded to the cries of the "mediator." Moses was a type of the Lord Jesus Christ in that he mediated in behalf of the people to the LORD. So too, Christ "ever liveth to make intercession for us." (Heb 7:25). This is how God deals with us as we pass through the wilderness, otherwise He would have probably destroyed us already. 1Jo 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: LORD shewed him a tree - The tree was there all the time but the LORD showed him the tree. The tree also points to Christ in two ways. He is the tree and He was crucified upon a tree. The LORD must show and reveal the tree, which points to the blind nature of man and the sovereign grace of God Almighty. The tree pointing to Christ: So 2:3 As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so [is] my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit [was] sweet to my taste. Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him. Moses cast this tree into the waters, so it must not have been some big tree, but more like the dry bush on the mount. It is Christ who makes the bitter waters of this world sweet. He can turn the trials of life into sweet lessons of instruction. Paul and Silas, while in prison sang praises unto the LORD. Ac 16:22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat [them]. 23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast [them] into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. It is the cross of Christ that makes the bitter waters sweet. "there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them" -- Verse 26, "And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians." Pink says, "Nothing had been said to Israel about Jehovah's 'statutes and commandments' while they were in Egypt. But now that they were redeemed, now that they had been purchased for Himself, God's governmental claims are pressed upon them. The Lord was dealing with them in wondrous grace. But grace is not lawlessness... Grace reigns 'through righteousness,' not at the expenses of it." We need to read Acts 15:5-11. However the Christian who thinks that he can live lawlessly is going to bring the chastening hand of the Lord down upon himself, just as God promised that if Israel kept his statutes then He would not put any of the diseases upon them that He put upon the Egyptians. The man who is in Christ should have the law written in his heart and therefore his actions are the result of the spirit of the law rather than from the letter of the law. I heard a preacher on the radio make the statement that "faith must have works added to it or it would die," but that is not what James is speaking about when he says, "faith without works is dead" (Ja 2:20). True works, works done by the new man, are but the evidence of God given faith, and are not something added to faith but are the result of a believing heart. Just as a natural man who is alive has movement, so too the man who is born again will have spiritual movement. THE ACTIONS OF FAITH: --------------------- Heb 11:4 "By faith Abel OFFERED" Heb 11:7 "By faith Noah, ... MOVED with fear ... PREPARED an ark ..." Heb 11:8 "By faith Abraham, ... OBEYED; and he WENT out ..." Heb 11:9 "By faith he SOJOURNED ..." Heb 11:17 "By faith Abraham, when he was tried, OFFERED up Isaac ..." Heb 11:20 "By faith Isaac BLESSED Jacob and Esau concerning things to come." Heb 11:21 "By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, BLESSED both the sons ..." Heb 11:22 "By faith Joseph, when he died, MADE MENTION ..." Heb 11:23 "By faith Moses, when he was born, WAS HID three months ..." (speaking of the faith of his parents) Heb 11:24 "By faith Moses, when he was come to years, REFUSED to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;" Heb 11:27 By faith he FORSOOK Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. Heb 11:28 Through faith he KEPT the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. Heb 11:29 By faith THEY PASSED THROUGH the Red sea as by dry [land]: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. Heb 11:31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had RECEIVED the spies with peace. Heb 11:33 Who through faith SUBDUED kingdoms, WROUGHT righteousness, OBTAINED promises, STOPPED the mouths of lions, "for I [am] the LORD that healeth thee." -- Some have used this verse to teach that a believer should not use any doctor or herb or drug for healing. Yet the verse before this one showed that the LORD used a tree to heal the bitter waters. Compare: Ps 104:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and HERB for the SERVICE of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; 15 And wine [that] maketh glad the heart of man, [and] oil to make [his] face to shine, and bread [which] strengtheneth man's heart. 1Ti 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often INFIRMITIES. ( Why would Paul instruct Timothy to drink a little wine for his INFIRMITIES if it would be wrong for a believer to receive drugs or herbs, etc. ) Verse 27, The blessing that follows the trial of faith. The LORD sweetened the bitter waters and then led them to pure water and the shade of Elim. Elim = "palms" TWELVE wells -- Lu 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. If false teachers are described as "wells without water" (2Pe 2:17) then true teachers must be wells with water. Joh 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be IN HIM a well of water springing up into everlasting life. SEVENTY palm trees -- Lu 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Ps 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. palm tree = date palm They received dates (fruit) from these palm trees.
