EXODUS CHAPTER SIXTEEN ---------------------- Verse 1, The Lord did not allow them to stay too long in Elim. Compare: Num 33:9 And they removed from Marah, and came unto Elim: and in Elim [were] twelve fountains of water, and threescore and ten palm trees; and they pitched there. 10 And they removed from Elim, and encamped by the Red sea. 11 And they removed from the Red sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin. This encamping by the Red Sea is not mentioned here in Exodus. Perhaps the Lord brought them back by the Red Sea after their murmuring to remind them of what happened there, seeing that they so soon forgot it and began to murmur at Marah. Now they have journeyed unto the wilderness of sin. sin = "thorn" or "clay" Pink says, "Every step they took was now leading them farther away from the inhabited countries and conducting them deeper into the land of desolation and death." He goes on to say that the faith of Moses was great in leading two million people into such a place as this, knowing what the desert was like. He was not ignorant of the character of the desert. He was trusting in the Lord totally and knew that only a series of daily miracles could meet the vast needs of so many people in such a place as this. Notice that the time is marked here. Why, I do not know, but the Holy Spirit does not waist words. Two may speak of 'witness' Comp Rev 11:3 15 is a factor of 5 and 3. 5 = grace 3 = resurrection and the God-head 15 = rest, but this was not a place of rest. Verses 2-3, Notice it was not just a few who did this, but the WHOLE congregation. And again it was against Moses and Aaron; forgetting that it was the LORD who was sovereign over their being in this place. When we murmur, we forget that it is the Lord who has brought us to this place or else it is our own doings. We forget that God is sovereign over every circumstance. Notice in verse 8 Moses said, "your murmurings [are] not against us, but against the LORD." Their unbelief was aggravated by an oath in which they took the divine name in vain. "Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt..." Look at their unbelief: The Lord had promised that they would worship Him at Sinai. Ex 3:12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this [shall be] a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. Yet they said, "for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger." And what was the Lord's response to such awful unbelief. "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you" He could have said, "Behold I will rain down fire and brimstone upon you." Verse 4, This shows the mercy of God in the face of unbelief. This was certainly unmerited favour. Behold: Mark this and look at it in worshipful wonder bread from heaven: This speaks of, in type, of the food that God has provided for our souls, that is, the souls of his people. This food is the written word and also the Incarnate Word (Jesus Christ). 1) This bread was a supernatural gift: it was FROM HEAVEN. It was not something that God made come up out of the earth. It was not brought with them out of Egypt. Nothing from Egypt would supply their need, but rather it was from heaven that it came. It was the gift of God. Joh 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. Some have suggested that this bread actually grew on a tree but how that tree produced bread in all seasons and was every where the Israelites went is beyond explanation. No, it was a gift from heaven. Men have suggested that the Bible, the written word, is from men, but examination only proves that it is from heaven. Men have suggested that Jesus was just a man, but his words and miracles testify that He was from heaven. At an estimated 2 million people and with an "omer" to be gathered for each soul (vs 16) (about 6 pints or 2 liters) so an estimated nine million pounds or 4500 tons would have to be gathered daily. Pink says that this would have taken 10 trains with 30 cars each to haul off, and this is just one days supply. This is a nation on the move! 2) The bread came to them where they were see vs 13 and 14. No long journey was necessary to receive this bread. It was right before their eyes. Men have made long pilgrimages to the tops of mountains to certain places to find God, but look open the book, His bread is right before your eyes. The Living Word is revealed in His written word. 3) This manna was small in size - vs 14 "a small round thing, [as] small as the hoar frost" The sum total of God's revealed word can be carried in your pocket. Volumes have been written about it, but it is packed with truth into such a small space it is beyond comprehension. 4) It was white in color - vs 31 White is the symbol of purity. So God's word is holy and the Incarnate Word is holy and without sin. Ps 12:6 The words of the LORD [are] pure words: [as] silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Pr 30:5 Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 1Jo 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 5) The manna was to be eaten - It was not given to look at or to admire but to be eaten. It was for food. God's word is to be consumed and digested, for it is food for the soul. Ps 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! [yea, sweeter] than honey to my mouth! "and the taste of it [was] like wafers [made] with honey." vs 31. Jesus said that he was the Bread of Life (Joh 6:48). We are to consume Him by faith (Joh 6:47), so to believe on Christ and to rest in the sacrifice of His body and the shedding of His blood as a propitiation for our sins is to partake of Christ. You can not just admire Christ but you must receive Him and trust in Him as your personnel Saviour. Just as a neglect of our diet in the natural sense will lead to poor health, so to neglect of our spiritual diet will also lead to poor spiritual health. So God's Word must be appropriated. When we sit before a well spread table, when cannot eat everything on it, but we will never be nourished unless we set something in our plate and eat it. We do not have to eat everything on the table but some of it. God's Word is exhaustless in its contents and we will never consume its contents no matter how many times we may have read every word of it. And so too, Christ must be appropriated by faith. The unbeliever may say that Jesus is THE Saviour but the believer says that He is MY Saviour. Faith personalizes. Faith receives Christ as the Bread of Life. Then just as food is to be chewed slowly and not just swallowed, so too God's Word should be meditated upon and not just gobbled down. We need to use our spiritual teeth on it. Christ and what He has done in the flesh for us should be meditated upon. Ps 1:1 Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Then finally as food is digested into our system, it becomes blood and flesh and gives us strength and glow. So too, as we eat the Living Word we receive strength for our spiritual man. We are able to walk and yea run with strength and not fall and stumble like a weak man. Ps 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Worry is SIN! We worry because we are not exercising faith. And faith cometh by hearing. And hearing by the Word of God. Pink says, "The principles and precepts of the Bible must be incorporated into my life. The Word has not been assimilated (digested) until it has become the regulator of my walk and the dynamo of my service." 6) The manna was gathered daily - see verse 4 "go out and gather a certain rate every day" A new supply must be gathered each day. The spiritual application is the same. The soul needs systematic attention as does the body. The spiritual man is in urgent need of a daily supply of the Bread of Life. 7) The manna was gathered in the morning - see vs 13-14 "and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness [there lay] a small round thing, [as] small as the hoar frost on the ground." Of course they called it manna because they did not know what it was. Manna means "what is it?" (see vs 15) The morning is the time to spend at least a few moments of time in God's Word, even if it is only reading ONE verse. It is to begin the day in God's presence before the duties of the day occupy our mind and before we face the temptations and trials of the world that we will face that day. Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day [is] the evil thereof. 8) The manna was to be obtained by a certain amount of labour - Of course let us remember that a dead man (spiritual) can not labour. "Gather of it every man according to his eating." (vs 16) They did not labour to bring it down from heaven but to gather it when it was brought down to them. The Word of God has been brought down to us and placed before us. Let us open it and consume it. The manna did not fall into their mouths. Also the manna needed to be gathered with diligence. When the sun waxed hot it melted (vs 21). Diligence: Pr 2:1 My son, if thou WILT RECEIVE my words, and HIDE my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou INCLINE thine ear unto wisdom, [and] APPLY thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou CRIEST after knowledge, [and] LIFTEST up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou SEEKEST her as silver, and SEARCHEST for her as [for] hid treasures; 5 THEN shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. Joh 6:27 LABOUR not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Pink says, concerning Joh 6:27, "It signifies that men should be in deadly earnest over spiritual things; that they should spare no pains to obtain that which their souls so imperatively need. It is used figuratively, and signifies making salvation the object of intense desire. O that men would give the same diligence to secure that which is imperative, as they put forth to gain the things of time and sense. That to which Christ bids men direct their thoughts and energies is 'meat which endureth.'" Job 23:12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary [food]. 9) The manna was gather from off the ground - that is they had to stoop down and get on their knees to gather it. The spiritual application is obvious. We must go to God on our knees in prayer. 10) some gathered more and others gathered less (vs 17) So too it is with Christians, some gather more and others gather less. 11) What was gathered must be used - verse 19 Divine truth is not to be stored or hoarded but to be consumed and used. We are not to hoard it but to pass it on to others as opportunity arises. 12) The manna was not understood by the natural man. When they saw it the said "What is it?" (vs 15). So too the natural man when he reads or hears God's Word he says "What is it?" 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned. But the spiritual man, Moses, knew what it was. "And Moses said unto them, This [is] the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat." (vs 15). 13) The manna was despised by the mixed multitude - Num 11:4 And the mixt multitude that [was] among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? 5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick: 6 But now our soul [is] dried away: [there is] nothing at all, beside this manna, [before] our eyes. Side by side with the wheat was and is the tares. This is what is meant by the "mixt multitude." 14) The manna was preserved in the ark - see vs 33 Ex 16:33 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations. 34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. The manna could not be stored in the tents, yet it could be stored in the "golden pot" (Heb 9:4). It would not last one day in their tents, yet lasted 40 years in the golden pot that was in the ark. Heb 9:4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein [was] the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; It was kept until Canaan land was reached. Which shows that God has preserved His Word down through the ages. 15) It lasted until Canaan land was reached - Ex 16:35 And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan. The manna continued until the end of their journey, so too God will supply all of our needs to the end of our journey. THAT THE MANNA POINTED TO CHRIST: "The Word" is used both of the Scriptures and the Lord Jesus Christ. Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ... Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. That the scriptures are a Revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ and CANNOT be separated from Him. To separate the scriptures from the Lord Jesus Christ is to believe on another christ. Psa 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the VOLUME of the BOOK [it is] written of me, Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. Lu 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe ALL that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and ALL the prophets, he expounded unto them in ALL the scriptures the things concerning himself. Lu 24:44 And he said unto them, These [are] the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and [in] the prophets, and [in] the psalms, concerning me. All doubt that the Manna points to the Lord Jesus Christ is removed by the very words of the Lord Jesus, Himself. Joh 6:32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Joh 6:48 I am that bread of life. 1) The occasion: The whole congregation murmured against Moses and Aaron, which was a demonstration of unbelief. It was an exhibition of unbelief, ingratitude and rebellion. This was the setting when the Manna fell. So too, when the Lord Jesus Christ came down from heaven he came to a world that was in unbelief. To a rebellious religious bunch who would kill him because of His word. Four thousand years of God's goodness and what did Christ come to? Ro 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. When Christ comes to the sinner, he is no better. Christ does not wait for the sinner to refine himself and lift himself up to a higher plain, but rather comes to the sinner where he is and gives life. 2) The place where the manna fell: It was in the "wilderness of sin" (Ex 16:1) tells us. A wilderness speaks of a place without a home. The Sinless One came into a homeless world of sin. 3) The Glory of the Lord appeared at the time that the manna was given: Ex 16:10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. So too Christ revealed the Glory of the Lord. Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 2Co 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. If you want to see the Glory of the Lord, then look to Christ and don't separate Him from His doctrine. Moses wanted to see the glory of the LORD. Ex 33:18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 4) The manna came down from heaven: "Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from HEAVEN for you..." (Ex 16:4) This manna was not a product of the earth. It did not come from Egypt nor the dessert. So too, Christ was not from this earth but from heaven. Eph 4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 1Co 15:47 The first man [is] of the earth, earthy: the second man [is] the Lord from heaven. 5) The manna was a free gift from God: "This [is] the bread which the LORD hath GIVEN you to eat." (Ex 16:15) It was not a reward for good works, for they had just displayed rebellion and unbelief. So too, Christ is a free gift. Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 2Co 9:15 Thanks [be] unto God for his unspeakable gift. 6) The manna was sent to the Israelites alone: There was no manna in Egypt nor Canaan, but only in the wilderness of sin where the Israelites were. Ex 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for YOU; and the PEOPLE shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. Two truths are taught here: First, Christ is the manna for the elect of God and none else. No Pascal Lamb was slain for the Egyptians, though some Egyptians may have been with the Israelites and have partaken with them and been beneficiaries of it, just as the Gentiles are today and also with Israel, example Rahab. Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the PEOPLE. Lu 1:77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, Mt 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Listen to the words of Christ Himself: Joh 17:19 And for THEIR sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. The word "sanctify" means to set apart. So how was he going to set Himself apart in a way that He had not already done. He was already without sin and had demonstrated that throughout His life. He was now ready to give His "life a ransom for many" so that He might redeem the people. Notice he uses the words "THEIR SAKES." Who are the "their" of this verse. They were the ones the Father "gavest" and had "given" to Christ. (vs 2, 6, 9, 11, 12, 24) of John 17. Second, the manna was sent to a needy and foodless people. They knew that they were without food and in a desperate situation. From the human side they were about to perish in the wilderness. All food was gone! They seemed to be in immediate danger of starvation and death. But, from the Divine side, everything was ordered and sure. Christ is food only for people who are in need. Only people who, through the Holy Spirit, see themselves as rebellious and unbelieving does Christ receive. Mt 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Joh 7:37 In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 7) The manna came to the Israelites right where they were: "... and in the morning the dew LAY ROUND ABOUT THE HOST. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness [there lay] a small round thing, [as] small as the hoar frost on the ground." (Ex 16:13,14) Ro 10:6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 8) The manna was gathered by each individual: "Gather of it every man according to his eating..." (vs 16) So too with Christ. Receiving Him is an individual thing. It is a personnel matter. Mother and father can not do it for you. No one can believe for another. Ro 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to EVERY ONE that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Mk 16:16 HE that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but HE that believeth not shall be damned. 9) The manna met a daily need: Notice in verse 4 of chapter 16 that they were "go out and gather a certain rate every day." They needed a fresh supply each day. We need to feed upon Christ each day, keeping Him before us in our heart. 10) Appetite determined the amount gathered: see ver. 16, 17. Ex 16:16 This [is] the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man ACCORDING TO HIS EATING, an omer for every man, [according to] the number of your persons; take ye every man for [them] which [are] in his tents. 17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, SOME MORE, SOME LESS. So too with Christ. So Christians desire to know Christ more than others. We feed upon Christ as our spiritual appetite governs. 11) The manna was despised by those who were not the Lord's people: Num 11:4 And the mixt multitude that [was] among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? 5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick: 6 But now our soul [is] dried away: [there is] nothing at all, beside this manna, [before] our eyes. This is a parallel to Isaiah 53, speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ. Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. The lost man who has never been convicted of his sins by the Holy Spirit despises the true Christ. He will not come to nor does he desire the true Christ. Therefore men will preach another Christ to him and that christ men will receive. We were all that way before the Lord convicted us of our sins. That sin-bearing Christ; that bloodied Christ; that substituting Christ; that sovereign all powerful Christ who is able to save His people from their sins, was but an offence to us, just as He is to the rest of the unbelieving world. Just as the drug attic needs another fix and the drunkard needs another drink to make things better, so too the sinner without Christ yet who is religious, needs another ritual, another confession, another good work of some kind to make things all-right again. That will last a little while and then he'll need another fix. No wonder the Book of Revelation, when speaking of the great false religious system, says: Rev 17:2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. But there is ONE who when you partake of, you will never hunger again, who when you drink of, you will never thirst again, but will live forever. Joh 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Joh 4:13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Christ is that STEADY ROCK! We are not "up and down" and "in and out." Those who are not Christ's despise Him and do not see their desperate need and how that Christ alone is able to meet that need. The are perfectly content with the food of Egypt; "the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick." 12) The manna fell upon the dew and not upon the dust of the ground: We seem to get a CLEAR picture of this in Numbers 11 verse 9, and Pink thinks that this has a meaning. Num 11:9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the MANNA FELL UPON IT. And we do know that everything in scripture has significance, and such a statement must mean something, else why did the Lord make sure that such a small thing should be made so very clear. However I could not tell if "upon it" was in the original Hebrew, since no Hebrew word came up in my Bible program for it. In Gen 3:19, God speaks to FALLEN and SINFUL man and says: "for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou return." So Pink says that dust speaks of fallen man, and Christ did not have a fallen nature nor was He touched by sin. He says that this foreshadowed the uniqueness and incorruptibility of our Lord's humanity. Christ's body was prepared and was not of this earth. (Heb 10:5) I think that we need to be careful with carrying types too far, however we don't need to be so careful that we miss the types all together as the Jews did. Jesus said that He was the manna, John said that He was the "Lamb of God" and Paul said that he was that Rock that followed the Jews in the wilderness from which they drank. 13) The manna was white in colour: "And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it [was] like coriander seed, white..." (Ex 16:31) This speaks of the sinlessness and purity of the Lord Jesus Christ, which was manifested in His daily walk. 2Co 5:21 says that "He knew no sin." Heb 4:15 tells us that "He was without sin." Peter says that "He did no sin." The writer of Hebrews again says, "[who is] holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners..." (Heb 7:26). Peter again says that He was "without spot and without blemish." (1Pe 1:19). 14) The manna was sweet to the taste: "And the taste of it [was] like wafers [made] with honey." (Ex 16:31) Song of Solomon: The relationship of the Lord's church to Him. So 2:3 As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so [is] my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit [was] sweet to my taste. So 5:13 His cheeks [are] as a bed of spices, [as] sweet flowers: his lips [like] lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh. So 5:16 His mouth [is] most sweet: yea, he [is] altogether lovely. This [is] my beloved, and this [is] my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem. Ps 104:34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD. 15) The manna was ground and baked: Num 11:7 And the manna [was] as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium. 8 [And] the people went about, and gathered [it], and ground [it] in mills, or beat [it] in a mortar, and baked [it] in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil. This must speak of the sufferings of the Lord Jesus Christ in our behalf. Mt 21:44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. Christ suffered this grinding to powder on our behalf. The believer has fallen upon Christ that he not be grounded to powder as those on whom Christ will fall. Then the manna was "beat" and so too Christ was beaten by the soldiers for our sakes. Then the manna was baked with fire, which speaks of God's Holy wrath being poured out upon Christ for our sakes and for our sins, which were put upon Him. 16) The manna was preserved on the Sabbath: See Ex 16:23-24 On the Sabbath day our Lord was laid in a tomb and he was the only one whose body saw no corruption. Ps 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 17) The manna was laid up before the Lord: See Ex 16:33 Heb 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, [which are] the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: This Christ in human form will be before the Lord forever and God will be glorified in human form. 18) The manna was called angel's food: Ps 78:24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. 25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. Pink says, "Christ not only feeds the souls of those of His people who are upon earth, but He also satisfies the hearts of celestial beings. The unfallen angels find their chief delight in feeding upon Christ. They worship Him, and they tell forth His praises." Heb 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 19) The manna was given in the night: So too, Christ came to us when we were in darkness. Ro 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Also, Isa 60:2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 20) The manna is now hidden: Rev 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the HIDDEN MANNA, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth [it]. So too, the Christ of scripture, of which the manna speaks, is now hidden from the world. He is unseen by the "eye of sense" and remains in heaven until that day in which he will be revealed to the world.
