EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH
CIVICS CLASSES RECEIVE NEW
MAPS for the FIRST TIME in 20 YEARS
The League
of WoMen Voters of Baton Rouge
Education Foundation and Cox Communications
presented new maps, globes and other educational materials last week
to the East Baton Rouge Parish school system for use in 33 civics classrooms.
The materials are the product of LWV-BREF’s Vision 2001. The banquet
raised more than $16,000 to purchase materials from a list supplied by the
parish’s civics education teachers and former social studies coordinator, Dr.
Joseph Cornelious.
The group also contributed copies of three publications from the Public Affairs
Research Council: "Your Louisiana Government: an Owners Manuel," "PAR
Guide to the 2000 Louisiana Legislature," "The Politics of Reform: PAR: Fifty
Years of Changing Louisiana" and a copy of the League of Women Voters,
"Choosing the President, A Citizen’s Guide to the 2000 Election" for each
class.
