The League of Women Voters is...

The League of Women Voters of the United States was founded in 1920, as the culmination of the 72-year struggle to gain women's right to vote and to help prepare women to exercise their newly acquired right. It is a national organization for both women and men.
Through the 1,000 local Leagues, over 120,000 members work to encourage political responsibility through informed and active citizen participation in government and to act on selected governmental issues.
The League is nonpartisan, therefore it neither supports nor opposes any candidate or political party. However, the League does take positions on certain issues after careful study.
There are 1,000 Arizona League members. The League of Women Voters of Cochise County was founded in 1997. Joining the League at any level automatically confers membership at every level.

What does the League do?

The League provides each of its members a superb opportunity to become a part of the ongoing planning and development which enhances the quality of life in our communities.
With the skills in practical politics and leadership acquired through the League, members serve on public boards and commissions and have become elected officials.

What do League members do?

Members study issues, take positions on them and mobilize resources to turn those positions into public policies. They keep voters informed about issues at all levels of government so we can act, not just react.
The League actively supports political issues — never candidates or parties. However, members are encouraged to work as individuals with the political parties and candidates of their choice.
Members conduct candidate forums and educational workshops; circulate petitions; compile and print Voter Guides and County Political Directories; lobby at local, state and national levels; register voters; answer phone calls; and conduct Get-Out-the-Vote drives.
