An email from Jon Kasso - April 28, 2007...Thank you so much Jon and Marge!
After I found your memorial site I mentioned it to my mother. Last week she found a book of
three plays (Green Grow The Lilacs, Russet Mantle, The Cherokee Night) that Lynn Riggs gave
her and my father (Marge and Willie Kasso (the artist of Lynn's portrait)) for Christmas in 1945.
Inside the book on a separate sheet of paper Lynn typed and signed a poem (prayer):
Prayer in Rain
hear the gentle rain
hear the gentle deign
to certainly record
what is whisper Lord
they have little voice
to sorrow or rejoice
who must overcome
loud millenium
loud vocal throng
throws its word along
hear them who in pain
heed the gentle rain
(then he writes:)
Bill Archibald and Dean Bergeson arrive tomorrow
for a month. My work on Borned in Texas is finished -
but rehearsals soon, and I'll be seeing you,
Love,
Lynn
(on the inside cover he wrote:)
For Willie and Marge,
Love at Christmas and other times,
Lynn
