then, use a piece of tape (I used duct tape, about three-eighths of an inch wide) taped to the silver "buttons" (and hopefully only to the silver button). leave yourself a 'handle' of tape on both sides to grip it, then "jerk it up smartly" so as to lift the silver trim button up and off. there's two of these buttons, one on each side, of course :-). then remove the "flange headed" silver screws under the buttons...
