what I used to "blow the dust out" of the clamshell halves. it's "on a barrel" because I was working alone, and needed it up off the ground some. it was also set on low, and I stood about five feet away from it, while exposing the scanner case parts to the air blast. I was also careful to not let the silver electrical ribbons "whip around" while blowing into the case parts, too...

by the way,  I need some parts for my epson "perfection 4990 photo" scanner, namely:

one film holder, (epson part number 1426575) holds cut 35mm film strips, black plastic, and
two film covers, (both epson part number 1420114) parts of the unit above, probably black plastic, and
one mounted 35mm slides holder, (epson part number 1426576), also black plastic, and
one "mat, document cover", sometimes called "reflective document mat", part number 1301039, white vinyl over thin foam, fits inside upper lid, and
one "housing, mat", (epson part number 1272455), probably 'outer frame' for 'mat' immediately above
