let's start opening the bottom. it's a bit more complicated....first remove the two black screws, one under each upper lid 'post'. because each of these two screws is setting way down deep in an overly-large hole, here's where you're going to wish your screwdriver was magnetized if it isn't already. barring that, though, sometimes you can work around the problem by temporarily masking-taping the screw loosely TO the screwdriver - make sure the tape is sticking better to the screwdriver *shank* than to the screw, and after you just start the screw, withdraw the screwdriver (before seating the screw) to remove the tiny tape piece...
