My First Marathon
Kona, Hawaii 2003
My first marathon for diabetes will always be very special to me for many reasons. One special reason was, I ran with my nephew Dan. I made up a special shirt with Ryan's name on it, and when we line up for the start of the race, I notice Dan had put Ryan's name on his shirt too. I will never forget the feeling of standing with Dan at the start of the race. We both ran that day in Ryan's memory. Thanks to the American Diabetes Association for making it possible.
Dan and his sister Kelly have been diabetes advocates for quite a few years. Kelly's daughter Brook was born with diabetes.
Dan and Kelly have raised thousands of dollars with every marathon they have ran. They have ran marathons as far away as London, England-- Rome, Italy and Dublin Ireland.
I'm very proud of them for all the long hour they spent in training for each marathon and for the extraordinary fund raising jobs they each did.
