i need help identifying a plant i found growing in a bog near the house.
pulled up quite a few of them and potted them up. also, while yer at it, have
a quick look at the new resident frog that started sunning on the brick edging
a few days ago. if you can ID either one, i would sure appreciate. particulars
on the plant as follows:
......click on pictures to enlarge.....
originally rooted in mud, growing in water about 6" deep;
hardy in zone 7 as grows naturally here;
straplike leaves that grow from the center of the plant crown;
leaves are flat where they emerge from the crown of the plant;
leaves lighter green than iris;
leaf is thicker through the middle than iris;
size of plant at bloom is 2.5 to 3 feet tall;
blooms look like spiky fuzzball seed pods - you can see a better shot of the
flower spike if you click the picture to enlarge - i gotta figure the flower
spike must look familiar to someone;
plant didn't slow down a bit when i dug them, washed off roots and then replanted
in red clay soil.
