Achievements
- Led the technical
development of a 3D visualization product for endoscopic
(minimally invasive) surgery. This work encompassed
developing a new endoscope and camera and integrating
them with customized video processing and display
equipment. (As Manager, Special Projects, at Karl Storz
Imaging, Inc., Santa Barbara, CA.)
- Invented methods to
reduce flicker in 3D displays. (As Director of
Engineering at 3-D Video, Inc., Santa Barbara, CA.)
- Contributed to the
development of two innovative displays (the Virtual
Retinal Display and the Retro-Reflective Display). (As
Research Scientist at the Human Interface Technology
Laboratory, the University of Washington, Seattle, WA.)
- Developed a
stereoscopic camera system for deep-sea research. (For
the Oceanography Department at the University of
Washington.)
- Contributed to the
development of head-mounted display enhancement methods.
(As Systems Engineer, Virtual i· O, Inc., Seattle, WA.)
- Developed a Windows
software product (C3D™) for stereoscopic
image processing (real-time 3D video acquisition and
display, still image management, 3D measurement, etc.),
which used a new method for viewing 3D images on PC
computers. (As the proprietor of Perspective Systems,
Federal Way, WA.)
- Developed a 3D
measurement system for tracking particles in fluid flow,
which included software to run on Windows. (As a
consultant for Flow Research, Kent, WA.)
- Founded and managed
Microscience, Inc., Federal Way, WA, a company that
pioneered the development of image analysis systems on PC
computers.
- While at Microscience,
led the development of the first commercial stereoscopic
imaging system to include video capture and 3D
measurements and run on PC computers.
- Also while at
Microscience, developed 5 other software products that
use video processing and analysis for 2D measurements
(including the ImageMeasure™ series).
These were used for scientific and engineering
applications including biomedical research, cartographic
analysis, industrial quality control, and machine vision.
- Served as a member of
the program committee of the SPIE Conference on
Stereoscopic Displays and Applications for seven years.
