There has been much debate over the New MechWarrior Dark Age Atlas. And having spent a long time working on the larger Atlas, I decided to try to modify the new figure to make it look more like the old one. I had an extra Dereck Hasbani MWDA Atlas, so I decided to alter that one to try to make it look more Atlas like.
First step was to break the figure down into its component parts so I could work on them individually. Below is a picture of the Atlas all apart. I used a flat chisel to pry the Atlas off the base, then used smaller chisels to pry the model apart at the glue joints.
Above is a close-up picture of the old-style replacement head I made. The close up shows how rough it is yet. The Head was made by spinning a chunk of resin on the lathe and shaping it into a sphere, then carving out the details.
Here are a set of pictures showing the first test fitting of the head in the torso. Its a good start, but now I'm looking at the torso and thinking that its just too squat, and just doesn't carry over well. If I re-sculpt the torso too, then I may as well re-sculpt the whole figure.
