Wow! Christmas has come and gone already!

The weathermen/women were right. It did rain on Christmas. But it wasn't constant and it certainly didn't interfere with the day. It was great fun having everyone over. Chaotic at times, but fun. Good food, good company - what else could you want? However, I didn't take a single picture all do so you will have to check out everyone else's sites for those.

The Vogels are all still here, still having fun hopefully. I, alas, am back at work . . .

Christmas Eve is tomorrow!! Can't believe it's already here.

As I look out my window, it's raining (sigh). But this storm is supposed to be gone by tomorrow and then we will just have to see if the next system does in fact decide to bring rain on Christmas. Nothing I can do either way, but regardless of what happens, the pool is heating. People can swim in the rain right?

Meanwhile, let me give you a little health update.

At the folks:
Barb is over her laryngitis. She sounds almost normal again.
Gram is valiantly fighting off the flu and it looks like she is succeeding. Yay gram!
Alex is mostly better, but did cancel his surgery.
Dad & Connor are fine (last I heard).

At our house:
Mark & I are both over the colds/coughs we had last week.

Rachel's:
All reported healthy as of yesterday evening.

Nicole's:
Kristin got the flu Friday but was almost better today.
Hannah got the flu Sunday and was still sick today. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
No one else sick except Nicole, who really is just sick in the mornings!

So we may actually be at 26 for Christmas (unless the St Louis crew gets sick!).

Everyone think happy thoughts and keep your fingers crossed for:
(1) Sun and (2) Healthy people!

News flash!! We just had an earthquake!

Apparently it was a 6.4, based somewhere up near San Simeon. I'm sort of surprised because we REALLY felt it in our building. We're on the top floor and the whole building was rolling. And it lasted for a really long time (nearly a minute).

So now we have bad weather forecast and earthquakes. What's next?? Locusts?

Only 3 days until Christmas!!!

I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that the Florentines are done and I replenished the fudge.

The bad news is that the weatherman says it will rain here on Christmas. Really. Sorry Lois.

I choose not to believe the forecast. After all, they are more often wrong than not. I think they just like to be sensational and given that it hasn't rained here on Christmas is like 30 years, they just want headlines.

But just in case, I think everyone should think happy thoughts and wish for sun . . .

Holiday baking update!

Fudge:

(Notice that the top layer is mostly gone - please lodge all complaints directly with Mark.)

Toffee:

(Haven't taken it out of the pan for fear of it meeting the same fate as the fudge.)

Russian Teacakes:

(Ditto as the fudge.)

Can you guess what I've been doing this weekend? And I still haven't made the Florentines that my father and Dana covet.

Meanwhile, here's the latest of Petey:

As you can see, he has this habit of burrowing under things (pillows, blankets, rugs, etc). Once he's under whatever the item of choice is, he gets all warm and cozy and then usually falls asleep. Though I don't see how it could be warm and cozy under a pretty rough floor mat. . .

More updates later! Meanwhile I'd better go make the Florentines or Dana might cash in her ticket!

Ok everyone, we are in the home stretch to Christmas!! Only 6 days to go (5 if you do gifts on Christmas Eve!). I still have that one last gift to buy, but everything else is wrapped and under the tree (which means that the cats are no longer able to drag the tree skirt all over the room as it's now weighted down with gifts - hidden benefit!).

Meanwhile, the holiday baking has begun. Two kinds of dough in the fridge. One batch of fudge done. Only 3-4 more things to go!

I have received a request that I guarantee sun for the out-of-towners who arrive next week. I'll do what I can . . .

Hello all! Hope everyone is doing well.

I tried and tried to get some good pics of the outside of our house with all of its Christmas lights but somehow they all came out horribly. This was the only one that was even decent. It's our courtyard:

As you can see, we also have our fountain now. You can also see the flats of plants that I had the pleasure of planting this weekend. Well, to be honest it was a pleasure for about 1/2 and hour and then it got old. But at least it's done.

I think I bought my last Christmas gift at lunchtime today (sorry to those of you who are still shopping, but I am sooo relieved to be done!) Actually, now that I said it, I'm sure I'll think of another gift I need to get. Doh!!! I did just remember another one!! Seriously. (Sigh - I'm really not joking here, I did just remember another one after thinking I was done. Serves me right for gloating!). Off to Old Navy for me at some point.

One of our friends who lives in Spain is in town for the next week for work (in fact, his kids are the ones I still have to buy for!!!). He stayed with us over the weekend and he and Mark had quite the Xbox-fest. Now we just need to get them all to move back and all will be good . . .

10 days to Christmas.

What happens when you have --
1) nothing to do
2) a sharp knife
3) a large lime
4) a patient cat, and
5) too much tequila?

Scroll down to find out . . .

I laughed out loud at that picture. This was forwarded by Mark's aunt & uncle (no, this isn't a picture we took of our cats!! Our are nowhere near patient enough, and we don't have enough tequila).

Not a whole lot to report. A lot of Christmas parties. Need to wrap gifts. The usual for holidays. But a lot of friends are coming to town over the next couple of weeks so it will be great to see everyone.

Meanwhile, the Christmas menu is shaping up. I think the word for it is "eclectic". That's all I'll tell!

13 days to Christmas!!

On my way in to work this morning I heard a story about a group that is boycotting the movie Bad Santa. They are known as the Amalgamated Organization of Real Bearded Santas. Apparently the "Real" Bearded Santas are a group of men who feel the movie undermines all they work for. Huh?

I'm not sure which is worse, a movie badmouthing Santa or an organization composed of grown men who are so obsessed with being Santa?? And to add insult to injury, the group appears to be based right here in OC. (Sigh)

Meanwhile back in real life. . .

Our house is now all decked out for Christmas. We did the outside lights and finally put decorations on the tree. I'll take and post some pics sometime soon. So far no ornament casualties, but I did get up in the middle of the night hearing suspicious noise. Turns out that Petey had managed to get an ornament off of the tree and was batting it around on the wood floors. Repeat after me: "Baaaad Petey". You hear that a lot these days, intermixed with "PETEY!! No!!!". Today is the first day we won't be home. I suspect that the tree will be in need of a major repair job by this afternoon.

Just so the other cats don't feel left out, here is another group pic. They were looking at birds on the roof:

And just because I love the sunrise and sunset pics, here is my latest. This was taken Thanksgiving morning:

17 days to Christmas. Anyone have any good gift ideas for Grandma????

Did you know that Christmas trees are really the world's largest cat toys? Well now you do.

We had forgotten what kittens are like around Christmas decorations. In actuality, I can't just blame Petey - the other cats seem to be feeding off of his mischief. Last night I heard the tree rustling and assumed it was Petey climbing it. But when I went to check it out, there was Little Girl laying in the braches about half way up the tree sneering down at Petey (as if to say "Ha! I'm up here and you aren't!"). Meanwhile the tree skirt that was carefully spread under the tree ended up in a ball on the other side of the room.

The funny thing is that the tree isn't even decorated yet. We figured that we had better let Petey get used to it a bit before we actually put anything breakable on it. Somehow I don't think things are going to get better. . .

22 days until Christmas. . .

Long time no post. Sorry about the delay.

We had a fabulous Thanksgiving. First dinner at Mark's family's and then on to my folks. Nicole and her family were all there as well as Colleen & Terry. I brought my camera but then failed to take any pictures. Luckily Terry did: Turkey Day

As promised, here are a few more Moorea pics:

View of the bungalows:

More bungalows:

View of the Pool toward the water:

More fish:

And just so no post is without some birds:

(The last one is of chickens cruising around the airport. That is the runway behind them. What's up with that?)

Hope everyone had a great holiday!

Only 23 days until Christmas . . .
