3:16 PM I usually leave the movie stuff to Dana, but having watched a few movies lately I wanted to chime in. First of all, at everyone's insistence, we rented the first two Austin Powers movies and watched them both. I even more strongly stand by my assertion that the third movie is far and away the best. The first was only mildly amusing. The second was a big improvement, but the third was sooo much more entertaining than the others! I would love to hear from anyone who disagrees and, if you do, why. Second, we rented a movie last night that I had never even heard of but which got great reviews. It is called Northfork. It's about a town being permanently evacuated because the area will be flooded by a dam. On the one hand there is a group of men hired by the state to evacuate any stragglers. Meanwhile, a young boy is very sick and being tended by a priest who has not yet left. Other than that, I really cannot even begin to describe the movie. I guess the point of this post is to encourage anyone who likes somewhat bizarre and perhaps even indecipherable movies to rent it and let me know what you think. It is definitely bizarre, full of symbolism (most of which I am sure I missed), and very thought provoking. (If someone already commented on this movie, just disregard all the foregoing). On the home front - after the various Christmas and New Year's visitors left, Tom, Linda and Sammie made it out for a visit. We unfortunately were not able to visit with them too much (visit was short and on short notice so our schedules conflicted), but we did get to do the Friday night pizza ritual. As always, love pizza night! Hope everyone has recovered from the holidays! Again, it was great to see everyone!! |
