5:25 PM Hello My Name Is _______ Today was our first day in our new office space. The big move happened over the weekend. Thank God I wasn't required to actually participate in that nightmare (in fact we were outright banned from going to either the old or new building - woohoo!!) Amazingly enough, it seems to have gone pretty smoothly. As of this morning phones and computers were working. I had my furniture. They didn't lose any of my boxes or other stuff. All good. I even got a bigger office. Also good. But I'm still not loving things so far. Change is bad. Baaaad. First of all, you don't realize how accustomed you get to your surroundings. The people you see every day in the offices around you. The view you have out of your window. The routes you take to the kitchen and the restroom. That all changes completely when you move. Most of my neighbors have changed. I liked most of my neighbors (except the really loud guy). And now there are people near me that I don't even recognize. Who are these people? I'm still not convinced that they actually work here. I think everyone should wear name tags for a while so we don't have to feel stupid for not knowing people who have worked here for years. I also hate not knowing where things are. Somehow the building seems HUGE! I haven't even explored our other two floors much. Too intimidating. I'm afraid they are full of even more people I don't' know. And even though I have found both the kitchen and the restroom a couple of times I still get sort of lost each time. Very "first day of grade school" flashbacky. Yuck. Turns out that I am a major creature of habit. Which is sort of funny given how many times we have moved our home in the past 10 years. I'm sure there is a phychoanalytical explanation in there somewhere. But on to the good. As I said, I did get a bigger office (though it's about the temperature of a meat locker - sorry lapsed there for a minute). I still can watch the planes landing at the airport, just from a different angle because the view is a bit different. There are better places to eat around here. And South Coast is just a few minutes walk away. All in all, the verdict is still out. But at least the first day is over more or less. I'm sure tomorrow will be better. One more day toward rut-dom. |
