1:28 PM Life of Leisure - NOT! Pop quiz time. If you had to choose one of two options, which would it be? Option 1: Packaging up all your food, medications and anything else you might put in your mouth in special bags in preparation for tenting of your house by the termite company. This means everything in your fridge, freezer, pantry and anywhere else. All those little things like cheese packets from Costco (thanks Nicole for the reminder - we luckily didn't forget them in the usual drawer), salt and pepper shakers, sudafed and all the other stuff under the bathroom sink. The list seems endless. Oh, and if you really want to be in compliance with the instructions from the pest control company, you also need to go outside and make sure there is about 8-12 inches of clearance around each of the outside walls of the house. Which in our case means cutting back a boatload of plants. (For anyone who missed it, it turns out that we aren't the only ones who love the Fabulous House - so do termites. Yes, our 3 year old house has termites and, as part of the sale, we have to get rid of them via tenting. Which is a royal pain. You have to do all of the foregoing and then be out of the house for close to 3 days.) Option 2: Forcing three cats into their travel carriers, driving with them to a local hotel while listening to them make otherworldly sorts of yowls that you never hear except when they are in their carriers. Then carrying them through the lobby, the entire conference center, and a really long hallway to your room, all the while worrying that the yowls will get you kicked out of the hotel before even getting in it to begin with. How about having to do both? How about doing both in the past couple of days? Sounds great doesn't it? So much for enjoying my break between jobs. Now you know what I've been doing thus far. Right now, I'm sitting in our room at the Marriott down the street from our house. With three cats in varying stages of upset. Little Boy has been a real trooper. He accepted his fate and is embracing his mini-break cat style. He's currently sleeping on one of their favorite blankets on the bed. Meanwhile, Little Girl is under the bed, but has been coming out fairly often. In third place is Petey, who is not enjoying this at all and is in major denial. In fact, he only emerged from under the chair about 15 minutes ago. He's been under there since about 7:30 p.m. last night, which totals about 18 hours. Ooops. Spoke too soon, he just ran back under. Poor little guy. The good news is that in 46 short hours I get to force the cats back into their carriers and take them home. Meanwhile, I will hang out here with them. It's actually not so bad. Really could use the break after all the prep work. And other than the termites, the home sale process has been very smooth. That's about it for now. Just thought I'd update everyone. Have a great afternoon. And think happy thoughts for our poor little traumatized kitties.

Click Here to Read or Post a Comment Fear not. I have a fabulous new job with a nearby company. Instead of being a lawyer at a firm, I'll be an in-house lawyer who really has only one client - the company (who shall remain nameless in interests of privacy, etc.). Better yet, I get some time off in between jobs which at this point is much needed. Allow me to recap December 2005: Sell house. Get new job. That's about it for me. Anyone else have any news? |
