LS1 POWERED SANDRAIL

Below is the New Tatum Motor Sports Demon Sandrail I've built after it came back from Arizona Powder Coat and when fully completed. The frame is Choice White and the arms are Royal Blue. Power is by a 2000 5.7L LS1 all aluminum Corvette engine. As you can see it is a mid-engine, two seat, long travel design. The engine weighs around 457 lbs and is over 125 lbs lighter than the iron block Chevy 350. The free flowing intake and exhaust increases the power over the stock rating of 345 HP. The rail has a 120" wheelbase and weighs around 1600 lbs. It has 18" front and 23" rear wheel travel using King coil-over shocks front and rear with King bypass shocks also on the rear. The frame is MIG and TIG welded chromoly with mid-board hubs. The transmissions is a 4 speed Mendeola S4-S sequential shift. Seating is Renegade suspension seats. Front tires are Apex 6.80.15 by Extreme Tire on Douglas rims and the rear 14.50 Extreme paddle tires are on Douglas 10" rims with bead locks. The pedal assembly is CNC brand operating 4 piston disk brakes in the rear only. Steering is by Saco and I fabricated the two steering dampers to keep the many ridges from trying to rip the steering wheel out of my hands. The trunk-wing is a great place to put jackets for a cold night at the dunes. I fabricated the Sunbrella canvas top on my ole White Rotary vintage 1913 sewing machine. Everything fell into place with no problems. The first time out was October 11th 2002 and other than the rear suspension being a little too stiff, it worked perfectly right out of the box. During the summer down time of 2003, I added power steering. If you ever hear "Meep! Meep!, it's probably me pulling up to the hill and hitting the horn. Come on over and say hello.
