Diamond Dust #2
Too much fun not to have a second Dust
These two videos replaced the original files on Aug. 13, 01 and are a little better quality. I now have software to edit MPEG files and can cut any bad parts out.
Diamond Dust Launch (MPEG) 831 KB . Powered by a Sport jett 50 and a 9x8 APC prop.
Low and fast for a speed check. (MPEG) 582 KB . Using my video editing software I was able to calculate the speed of this pass at just over 170 mph.

Shown with a Sport Jett 50 and the shorter SS muffler this plane is very fast. It will change directions so fast at speeds over 150 MPH that I wonder how it holds together but after 140 flights on the first Dust I have never broke anything while in flight. My other Diamind Dust page has a launch video that will give you some idea just how powerful this plane is.

With a 34" wing span and weighing just under 3 lbs the 9 x 8 APC prop developing around 7 lbs of thrust at 18,000 RPM gives unlimited vertical a new meaning

A couple of hours after you open the box the Dust will look something like this. It is a fast building plane but both planes required a little attention to get them straight. The entire plane was put together with CA and CA+ glue except for epoxy for fuel proofing and the fin tabs for more working time to get the angle right.

The plans called for the throttle servo to be mounted next to the fuel tank but I mounted it in the radio compartment. With a large engine the plane comes out nose heavy and I tried to keep every thing back as far as possible. I used standard JR 517 servos on the first Dust but used Hitec 225BB mini servos for the elevons on this one. The throttle servo is a JR micro.

I own two Sport Jett engines and their quality is second to none. Very easy to start, instant response and more power for their size then any other sport engine. With the shorter SS (Super Sport) muffler option this Jett 50 will turn a static RPM of 18,000 with a 9x8 APC prop and the pylon props turn even faster. My first Sport Jett 46 has hundreds of hard flights on it and is still a trouble free and strong engine. You can get to the Jett Engineering web page from my links page. You may pay more but you get more.
