Mattie's Porcelain and China Paintings

The pictures below are some of Mattie's hand-painted china and porcelain, and are from three sources:

  1. The first eight pictures are pieces that Julian Bardin Melton, Jr. gave me in 1983.  Only the first is signed (just with the name "Melton", as can be seen on underside). They all were painted either by Mattie, or her mother, Martha "Mattie" (Houck) Melton.

  2. Pictures 9 & 10 were provided by Florence Cruise, a great-great granddaughter of Thomas Howard Anderson, a son of Benjamin (1758-1853). The plates are of two of those handed down to her from her Aunt's Ethel & Clara Read. Ethel and her sister, Clara, purchased these plates, along with others from Mattie.  A letter written in 1938 that relates this story can be seen here.

  3. Pictures 11 & 12 were also obtained from Florence Cruise. These plates belong to her sister, Carol Ahlders, and are two more of the plates handed down by her aunts.
