GEORGE SHARP DIED AT HOME HERE TODAY
HEART ATTACK
IS FATAL TO PIONEER HALE
COUNTY CITIZEN
George C. Sharp, 71, a pioneer
of the Plainview country died at 2:50 o’clock this morning at his home, 317
Broadway, after an Illness of a month. He had a heart attack at that time but
the disease became acute ten days ago, and he had been confined to his bed
since then.
Mr. Sharp came to Plainview
about 40 years ago and took up a claim on a place on Runningwater draw. Later,
after he had lived out the claim he went to Mansfield,
in Tarrant County,
and moved back here 16 years ago. At the time of his death he owned business
property in the city and farming land in this county.
Mr. Sharp was born May 16, 1859, at Estill
Springs, Tenn. He moved with
his family to Hill County
and lived for many years near Itasca,
Texas.
He was married in Tarrant county to Mrs. Ida Riley and five children were born
to this union, all of whom survive; R. T. Sharp, Plainview;
W. H. Sharp, Floydada; George C. Sharp. Jr., Houltom [sp], Maine;
Mrs. Jesse Melton, Weslaco; Henry
F. Sharp, Cheyenne, Wyo.
His first wife died in 1903. Two sisters also survive: Mrs. M. S. Mullins,
DaIlas, and Mrs. Sally Hall, Waco.
He was married in 1915 to Miss
Celia Murphy of Nashville, Tenn.,
and she survives him. Mr. Sharp also leaves five grandchildren.
This morning relatives had been
unable to locate George Sharp. Jr., whose last address was Houltom,
Maine. Funeral arrangements were held up
pending word from this son and from relatives in Tennessee.
Fields Funeral Service prepared the body for burial, which will be made in
Plainview
cemetery.
