The purpose of this web site is to share the information that has been collected regarding my ancestors with other cousins who are in search of their roots. The genealogy appearing within these pages relate to the ancestry of Jesse Houck Melton and Sally "Virginia" Sharp. The details are provided in a set of reports; one report for each family of their ancestry. These family group reports may be accessed in several ways by using the following:
A detailed list of names for each individual in the family group reports
A summary of those surnames in the above list
Jesse and Virginia Melton's Ancestry Chart
Descendant reports for several specific ancestors of Jesse and Virginia
Most of the genealogical information presented here was provided by the many cousins I've met on the internet, and to whom I am very grateful. I especially would like to thank some of these individuals, as their information significantly added to my understanding of this genealogy. To recognize that assistance, their names have been listed in the Contributors section on this page.
Unfortunately, verifiable sources for a good deal of the information that is presented has not yet been found. Where I've managed to find available source records, such as census, court records and other documents, the information regarding direct ancestors of Jesse and Virginia has been validated. However, sketchy information available on some of the more distant ancestors (e.g. first generation individuals), and typographical errors, will require the reader to be watchful for inaccuracies. Furthermore, I have not tried to specifically validate all information shown for siblings of the direct ancestors. I would appreciate learning of any corrections, additions, or further connections that may be found.
I hope this material on my ancestors will be found interesting, and I would appreciate hearing from you.
After questions were raised by Cheryl Anderson and Sharon Welton, two Anderson descendants, regarding Abraham's genealogy, a review of the source material has affirmed that data previously shown on this website for the first two generations of this family was incorrect. The data for these two generations has now been removed and will be replaced after a corrected version is available. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Cheryl and Sharon, not only for pointing out the discrepancies, but also for their ongoing efforts that will result in the forthcoming corrections.
Walter Palmer's genealogy has been extended to include recently found Wheeler cousins. Specifically, additional descendants of Thomas P. Wheeler, a son of Phineas & Eunice (Brown) Wheeler, and who was the brother of my ancestor, Edwin P. Wheeler.
Photo album showing some of Mattie Ketchum Melton and her mother's painted plates has been created and a hyperlink has been placed to it where her name appears in the Melton Genealogy. A transcription of a letter written in 1938 by another Melton-Anderson descendant can also be accessed from the introductory portion of the photo album. The letter contains references to Mattie and some of these painted plates, as well as a great deal of genealogical information relating to the Melton-Anderson line.
Information added to communicate the newly created web site for Thomas Finch.
Ancestors of Jesse & Virginia (Sharp) Melton
Information on the families for the ancestors of this couple are provided in report form, some of which include scrapbooks containing pictures and/or documents. These reports may be accessed either by surname or through use of the ancestry chart for Jesse and Virginia.
Additionally, reports are available for the following ancestors that provide information on all of their descendants in my database.
The Search Engine below may be used to find arbitrary information that is contained within the various databases accessible on this site. The subject (or term) to be searched can either be an exact phrase, any word of the subject, or all words in the subject. There is also an option allowing you to specify the scope of your search. You can either have the search performed using all of the information shown on the site ("Search all accessible databases of this site"), or you can limit your search to information appearing within a single database (for example, "Search Descendants of John Claye"). Results from the Search Engine will show the list of pages that contain your search subject. You can then open to these pages and, using the search (or find) facilities of your web browser, locate the specific references to that subject for which you have searched.
If you are unfamiliar with search engines, or would like to be more proficient in their use, an excellent and easy to read explanation may be found on this page of Cliff Lamere's Web Site.
