safe harbor for the Arizona gardener ~ practical ideas & poetic thoughts

A long narrow path lay before her,
the short winding path lay behind.
Though nothing had changed in the garden,
she'd stepped through a moment in time.

The whispering wind bade her "linger",
dropped crackly leaves to the ground,
then touched her with sweet scented roses,
and swirled to her feet like a gown

Above Photo/ July: The "rose story garden" lies just beyond the blue gate. Each rose in this garden was chosen by name and each name contributes a piece to the story. There is very little color to be seen at the moment since the roses bloom mostly during the spring and again in the fall thru early winter.

Left Photo/ January: A straight, narrow path leads past the roses to a reflection pool and prayer garden. Romantic twinkle lights glow on this cool, dark evening.  ...Just beyond the soft netting curtains, hanging over the the kneeling bench, you can catch a glimpse of the mediterranean-inspired conversation area with plants that attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

Right Photo/ January: Around the corner, there is a sitting area, strawberry patch, children's garden, small lawn, diving pool and old-red brick patio complete with a charming wooden "garden bed".

I've heard it said that when God closes a door He opens a window, but lately I've thought to myself,
"Could it be possible, He hasn't closed the door? Perhaps I need to  reach out and grasp the latchstring..."
