Grumman C-1A Trader
The C-1A
Trader was a derivitive of the Grumman S-2 Tracker anti-submarine aircraft. It appeared in
1955 as the TF-1, later becoming the C-1A Trader. This had a new fuselage with
accomodations for nine passengers and was designed as a carrier on-board delivery (COD)
transport. Production totalled 87 and included four G-125 EC-1As (TF-1Q) modified for
electronic countermeasures missions. |
When this photo was taken, the C-1A Trader reserved
for SDACM was waiting patiently in a storage yard.
This C-1A Trader is an ex-Midway COD (Carrier Onboard
Delivery) aircraft. She still wears her Midway squadron markings.
These photos were taken on a field trip to
Davis-Monthan AFB, where the C-1 was being stored.
The C-1 as it looked on arrival in San Diego, where it
is now being restored.

The C-1 is now being prepped for its upcoming new
paint job.

A different view than above.

Part of the C-1's tail is being worked on separately
in the hangar.
This aircraft is on loan from the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
