Midway's Hangar
The Restoration Facility for the USS MIDWAY museum
(Currently known as The San Diego Aircraft
Carrier Museum, on the USS Midway CV-41)
Other aircraft for our roster
We have received a number of emails asking why we are not restoring certain aircraft that played an important role in the Midway's history. These include Corsairs, Helldivers, Skyraiders, Banshees, Panthers, etc.
These (or any pre-Vietnam War era aircraft) are somewhat rare, and hard to come by. As much as we would like to have the above aircraft (and several others that are on our list), we don't know of any that are available for acquisition. The majority of the aircraft that we have now are on loan from either the National Museum of Naval Aviation or from private owners. Most were recently retired from active service or released from priority storage, and so we were able to get them on loan.
Due to budgetary constrants at this time, we are not in a position to purchase rare vintage warbirds for our collection. If you know of any owner of an appropriate naval aircraft who would be willing to loan or donate their naval aircraft to the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum, please contact us.
