My Bus Page
 The first thing required in converting a bus is....a bus!  How do you select a bus?

My first bus was a Bluebird and here's why;

  PRICE - I was on a very tight budget and couldn't afford a transit coach.  You can pick up a 1960 - 1980 Bluebird from 2-6 thousand dollars in good shape.  I found a 1963 Bluebird for under $3000.  That left a lot of my available funds for the actual conversion.  Other coach prices;  GMC 3-15k, MCI 5-35k, Eagle 10-45k, Prevost 30k+  Prices vary greatly depending on the year & model available.

RAISED - Most coaches range  6'2"-6'4" inside height.  Remember those huge buses that took you to school?  Well guess what?  The original height in mine was only 6'.  When you're converting, you usually install plywood, padding, and carpeting on the floor.  Then you cover the ceiling with some insulation & material.  You'll loose about 1-3" when you're done.  Also, most roof top devices (vents, AC's, etc.) protrude down into your headroom!  These things can become a nuisance fast.  This bus was raised 18"!  I could barely reach the ceiling!
