Welcome, here you will find some information about a great pistol, the Makarov 9 mm.
The Makarova is a simple and reliable hand gun. Available in both 9x18 mm caliber and 380ACP. The 9x18 mm Makarov cartridge was developed to be up to 50% more powerful than the .380ACP. Production started in Russia in 1951 (or slightly earlier?), with China and East Germany following in the late 1950s. These guns are substantially identical except for markings. The East German and Bulgarian Makarovs have the best reputation for fit and finish. Nikolai Fedorovich Makarov was 31 at the end of World War II when the Soviet Union called for the design of a new combat service pistol in 7.62 or 9mm. Makarov designed a new round, the 9x18 mm Makarov. Makarov is a semi-automatic pistol. The objective was to design a simple and reliable medium-powered pistol intended as the sidearm of the Soviet Forces. The pistol was accepted by the Russian forces in 1951 and has been the standard sidearm ever since. The correct pronunciation of Makarov is actually "Mah CAR ahv". While some Russian models came from the factory with a rear adjustable sight, the original Makarov has a fixed rear sight. Although called "fixed", it can be moved left or right with a soft punch to compensate for target groups that are off left/right. The Makarov only has 27 parts. |
