Having trouble running Probe from in Windows 98 or ME? It is not the software but could be your computer ACPI settings. Here is a simple work around for you. (Note there is a link below if you are running Under Windows 2000 and Windows XP and have ACPI conflicts with Direct I/O). You can make this .bat file, put it in your Probe directory and use it to start Probe: @echo off MODE COM1:9600,N,8,1,p Probe You can also try this: It will disable the power management of the COM ports: Use Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) to locate the EnablePowerManagement value in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VCOMM On the Edit menu, click Modify, change 01 to 00, and then click OK . Quit Registry Editor. If you are having problems getting communications with your com ports under Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP this may be of help. With Direct I/O you can continue to use your existing software and hardware after migrating to Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Update - I have moved my computers from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 and while I could get Probe to run directly from my computer I was seeing some errors and not getting very good scan speed. I tried Direct I/O and Probe is running just fine again, good speed and no errors. I have to say it worked great for me. I am trying it (Direct I/O with other DOS applications now also.) Direct I/O is the world's first device driver for Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP which enables the direct hardware access for your existing software without any programming efforts on your side Are you not able to migrate to Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP because some of your existing programs need to access the hardware directly? A number of Probe users have reported success using this product to enhance scanning speed when using Win NT / 2000. |
