BIOS

BIOS screens can be the most scary (or dangerous) place for a new person to be.  Lots of setting that don't always make much sense. All kinds of cryptic stuff that the computer cannot run without.
Below is a letter from Burt, a computer geek and all around technician.
Bios on a Gateway is usually:
ADVANCED
Perepherial Config
Parallel Mode
Get the serial number off the back of the tower, it will always start with 00 or 109, if it's a 109 number it's one of those asseenontv.com (As Seen On TV), which only have a 90 day warranty most of the time.

Then go to this link: http://www.gateway.com/support/default.asp  and enter the serial number.

When it comes up you will need to get the part number off the motherboard and write it down.

Now left click on downloads on the left side of the screen.

Left click on part number search, enter the mb part #; if there is a BIOS screen available it will come up under details.
We make it this hard for the public to find, so they won't be in there screwing things up.
We have a direct link to almost every one.
If we don't we use these:
Phoenix BIOS Link - http://www.phoenix.com/pcuser/PDF-Files/userman.pdf

Award BIOS Link -
http://www.phoenix.com/pcuser/awardbios/Award.html

WIM's BIOS -
http://www.wimsbios.com/

If you have that nagging Bios password on any Award BIOS,
there is a default password you can use:

shift +s y x z
