News From The Camp
Here it is Memorial Day weekend and I noticed a surveyor's marker at the entrance to my driveway. Thinking it was for road work to be done in the future. Then I thought to my self I had just recently put driveway markers at the entrance and was thankful that according to the surveyor's marker they were on my property and were Ok. I later spoke to my neighbor and asked about the marker at the entrance. He said it had something to do with the 911 emergency system and it was left at that. Upon returning to the camp for Our (Rhode Island) VJ Day holiday I was greeted with the new sign at the entrance to the driveway that you now see below.
So I guess it's official we are now on the map. As hard as we try to get out we can't win. We bought this land in Maine to get away from it all and now they have gone and pit us back on the map by putting a road sign on our private driveway. I guess it will now be easier to give friends directions to our Dead Stream Camp. As for the general public they will still encounter the locked gate upon entering the driveway if we are not at the camp.
There is one other thing ,I have finally finished my new shed 9/3/2001. The metal shed constructed in the fall of 1999 only survived one northern winter and collapsed in the second. It's just as well, as the entrance was low and I had banged my head entering several times. I will post new photos of the shed as soon as I get the film completed and developed.
Well here it is14 feet by 18 feet as promised completed on Columbus day weekend 2001. This should last much longer then the first as it has a 10" pitch on the roof and with a metal roof snow should just slide right off. It was a little wet that weekend but we worked between the rain drops. We also had a bad hail storm with pea size hail that lasted about 10 minutes and covered the ground white. Thank goodness we were done working when the hail hit as it would have hurt us.
Well here we are Labor day weekend 2002 and we have a new addition to the camp it has come in the way of a new refrigerator it's a 15 cubic foot Hotpoint by General Electric. This will be replacing the old Hotpoint that was not self defrosting and should be much better not to mention much more efficient. I'm told I will have to unplug the new refrigerator for the winter as it will not run in cold weather. Well so much for new equipment..Photo will be forth coming.
Here it is all 15 cu. ft.of it.
