Connecticut's Hardest Holes

An Ongoing MiniGolf CT Project

Has there been a miniature golf hole that just drove you crazy? Did you stand at the tee for hours, trying to figure out how to get from there to the hole? Or did you take a 5 or 6 rather than withstand the humiliation of hitting the ball back and forth, hoping to get it somewhere near the hole? Then this is for you!

We're looking to create a Top 5 or Top 10 list. But for now, we need submissions! See the bar on the right side of your screen to help us out.

Current Candidates

  • Riverfront Miniature Golf, Unionville (Farmington): Hole #4
    • (submitted by Jeremy Nightingale) "Starts with a 35 degree uphill climb that leads to a two foot gap that if not cleared dumps you into a flowing stream of water that will drop you off back on course just a good distance and bad angle to the hole. If the gap is cleared it leads to a downhill slope towards the hole. The hole is placed slightly left on a wavy but flat putting surface with brick surrounding the backside and a lip preventing the ball to roll where the other balls that didnt make the jump endup. Very practical to make this hole in two shots but because of the velocity on the first shot to clear the gap and the hole placement on top and the angles of the brick that the ball hits off of makes this hole atop the most diffficult to finish in one shot."
  • Knolls & Holes (Odetah), Bozrah: Hole #12
    • (submitted by Adam Glaude) "Hole #12 at Knolls and Holes miniature golf course located in Bozrah, CT at Odetah campground is one of the hardest holes I have ever played. The hole faces down hill with a 90 degree left hand turn. This seems like nothing out of the ordinary except for the fact that the outside of the turn has no barrier and goes straight into a babbling brook. If the ball is tapped too hard, the water will be lurking. This is a tough hole and the brook has claimed many balls, this is why this hole should be considered one of Connecticut’s hardest mini golf holes. With this hole, your putt must be hit with a perfect force and in a perfect direction, or a one stroke penalty will surely taint your score card. Hole #12 at Knolls and Holes is deceivingly difficult and is awaiting your try."
  • Saybrook Minigolf, Old Saybrook: Hole #18 (Stonehenge)
    • Picture
    • Golfers must snake the ball between two rocks for a shot at a hole in one. The trick - it's very difficult for the average mini-golfer to get it through from the tee mat! The ball can be hit to the right of the rocks to get a 2 or 3. The course offers a free game to anyone who aces this hole. (Update 7/2006: I finally managed to score a hole-in-1 here, though it is still very difficult.)
  • Farmington Miniature Golf, Farmington: Hole #17
    • At this hole, there are two hills. The ball must end up between the two hills in order to trickle down to the hole area. The only problem - it's very easy to hit the ball over both hills!
  • Blue Fox Walk Minigolf, Simsbury: Hole #5
    • Infamous to many a tournament golfer, the fifth hole features a two-tiered putting surface. The hole is on the upper tier, and most of the rest of the green is on the lower tier. Consequentially, golfers will either end up short of the upper tier or long. (And did I mention the water trap lurking in a corner?)
  • Putts Up Dock, Norwich: Hole #4
    • This Par 4 is designated that way for a reason: There's a lower level filled with obstacles to pass, and then you have to hit the ball up an incline to a smaller 2nd level, where the hole is.
