Several MADMEN members are very active in campaigning their highly modified Minis in SCCA GT5 Club racing. How does one get involved? You must have a car that meets the SCCA Annual Technical Inspection requirements. The SCCA main emphasis is on safety (fuel cell, full cage, seat belts, fire system, and component integrity). Expect the car to be carefully scrutinized from top to bottom. Getting a license. First: Have a novice permit issued by one of the many SCCA licensed Technical Inspectors. You must present a valid state drivers license, two passport photos, and a physical exam. Second: Attend and successfully complete two SCCA approved drivers schools. The schools may either be conducted by an SCCA Region or one of the several approved private/professional racing schools. If you have substantial recent racing experience you can request a waiver of some requirements and the second school. Third: Complete successfully two SCCA Regional races. This now qualifies you for an SCCA Regional license. Regional license requirements must be completed within a two year period commencing from date you obtained your novice permit. This license has annual renewal requirements. Upgrading to a National License. Once you obtain your regional license you must complete four additional Regional races within a 12 month period to upgrade to a National level. This allows you to compete for a National Championship if you meet the SCCA Runoffs invitation requirements that include Division standings and event participation numbers. |
