This effectively lowers the overall cost of the item for each person and eliminates the hassle of the manufacturers minimum order limit. .: Will there be other group buys? - If there is a demand for another group buy then yes there will be another. Keep in mind there is a minimum manufacturer order limit and if that number cannot be reached then the group buy cannot take place. .: Can I use another LCD Panel other than the 15.4" WUXGA Sharp? - The controller was specifically programmed for and tested with this Sharp 15.4" WUXGA LCD Panel. If you decide to use another panel I cannot guarantee that it will work! - If you are considering using a panel with a different resolution, I know for sure that this will NOT work. - If your panel is the same resolution but a different size, it may work but I advise against it. - If you want to use another brand of 15.4" WUXGA LCD Panels other than Sharp; I cannot guarantee it will work. There is something called SPWG standards that makes it seem that these 15.4" WUXGA panels can be interchanged. - Keep in mind that I chose the Sharp panel because of its great reviews and problem-free viewing. The Toshiba WUXGA's have a high response time of 40ms and the Samsungs have a burn-in problem. .: How do I input component video if there is no component input? - To input component we utilize something called "Sync-on-Green". This effectively enables us to input component video signals through the VGA input of our controller. A cable like this will be needed to use "Sync-on-Green" .: Does Sync-On-Green work with the X-box? - Yes and No. I have personally tested the sync-on-green with the X-box, my results yielded a spectacular picture in 1080i,720p,480i. The problem arose in 480p mode, which gave the screen a green hue over it. This is not because of the controller, but because of the non-standard X-box component signals. .: I have a DVI-D capable DVD/Satellite/Cable Box, will this work with the controller? - Most likely, no. Almost all DVD/Satellite/Cable Boxes with DVI-D output use an encryption format called HDCP. Since this controller does not support HDCP, it cannot decrypt the video signals, resulting in a blank picture. .: How do I connect my HD Satellite/Cable Box to the controller? - Because we cannot use the DVI-D signal, we must use the component outputs. Your HD Set-top-box should output 1080i/720p/480p/480i through its component video cables. You can input component signals into your controller using Sync-on-Green with this cable. .: Can I order just the controller, without the LCD Panel? - Yes .: Is this LCD strippable? - Yes, in fact this LCD panel does not even have a circuit board connected to the side; only the top. .: Is ghosting a problem, since the LCD has a response time of 25ms? - I do not believe so. I have used a CRT my whole life, this is my first LCD panel, I would imagine I would notice ghosting. I have watched many fast paced movies on this screen and have never noticed any ghosting. I have also played Half-Life 2 on this panel side by side to my 17" CRT and could not notice any ghosting. You can look up Dell Laptops with Sharp WUXGA panels and find more reviews. .: Is dithering a problem, since the LCD is not true color? - I have not noticed any issues with dithering. The panel displays a wonderful array of colors and has no problems rendering gradients. You can look up Dell Laptops with Sharp WUXGA panels and find more reviews. .: Are colors washed out because of the 400:1 contrast ratio? - Definitely not. The colors look absolutely spectacular. For a first hand experience, you can go to your local electronics store and compare 400:1 contrast ratio monitors to other 1000:1 contrast ratio monitors. .: Do you offer a warranty with your products? - No. I am simply the middleman, organizing the group buy and communicating with the manufacturers. The LCD supplier offers a 30-day warranty and has offered a no dead-pixel on arrival warranty. The controller manufacturer rigorously tests each component before it is shipped. In the rare event that the controller is non-functional, I would imagine the manufacturer would be more than happy to assist you. .: Will you be able to get a HDCP-capable controller soon? - No. Despite rumors, this is not going to happen. The reason is that the company behind HDCP charges a $15,000 yearly fee to start using HDCP components, and then charges a fee for each HDCP component used. The controller manufacturer has expressed that they do not plan on producing HDCP components, as the overhead cost is incredible. .: Does the kit include everything necessary to assemble a desktop LCD? - From the electronics standpoint - Yes. But it missing one crucial component - the monitor case. If one wanted to use this as a desktop LCD they would need to make some sort of monitor casing and mount the LCD/Controller board inside. I have seen pictures of people have done just this using some plexiglass, the results were very professional. |
