SoCal Road Enthusiasts - Second Meeting
The second meeting of the Southern California Road Enthusiasts (an ad hoc name for misc.transport.road participants from southern California) was held on July 7, 2001. Casey Cooper and I carpooled north up I-5 and US101, meeting up with Robert Cote, Daniel Faigin (and his daughter), Mike Ballard, Don Hagstrom, and Mike Pratt around 9:30 at the Ventura Amtrak station.
The trip to the meeting: Orange County to Ventura

New signs at the I-5/CA91 interchange.

The newly rebuilt I-5/CA91 interchange. Note the mast lighting which lights this interchange up like at football field at night.

Transitioning to the 1950's vintage I-5 north of CA91. There used to be a left lane onramp to southbound I-5 here. The Farm House restaurant with its neon windmill used to be here, too.

1955 vintage Santa Ana Freeway in south L.A. County. 90's updates: graffiti shield around the sign and quake retrofitting on the bridge pillars.

Left lane exit on the old portion of I-5 in Norwalk.

East L.A. interchange - northbound US101 at the I-5 overcrossing

US101 north through the "Downtown Slot".

US101 coming up on CA110. A unique sign gantry style is used here.

Pilgrimage overcrossing in Hollywood on US101. Note the old wood rail on Cahuenga Blvd to the left.

Cahuenga Pass on US101 at Universal City.

Northbound US101 / Santa Clara Ave interchange, built 1956. Basically a right turn on and off the freeway.
