WannabeRacing's "Little Dragster"

This dragster came about from the idea of having a vehicle on the race team that was easier to handle than the funny cars that were being run. The goal was as follows: Build a car that is safe enough to be run by anyone in the family, but fast enough to keep the hard-core family racers interested. As the car sat, the team's braintrust wheels started working. Once the gameplan was set, the dragster was relocated to "The Doc's" shop and dissasembly began. Dave's scout troop got into the action as part of the Auto Mechanics Merit Badge.

Dad and Dave got to work on the chassis. Upon close inspection,
it was apparent that the frame had to be welded to add strength to
critical areas. We fired up the TIG machine and got to
welding. Braces were added to the upper rails where the motor plate
saddle would sit. Also, additional bracing was welded in to assure the
ride would track straight and safe. After we finished the
welding, Papa Miller realized the nicked and scraped black color just
wouldn't do. The entire chassis was stripped and powdercoated. As
you can see below, the chassis turned out nicely.

Buzzz and Paul got to thinking about engine options that would fit the needs of the "Little Dragster". The car would have to be powerful enough to run Super Comp, but be low maintenance. With a number of powerplants available, they turned to "Fat Sam" to handle the job of making the power. "Fat Sam" is a WannabeRacing Engine built in house by Paul and Buzzz. You can learn more about their creation here.
