located at the intersection of Quinnipiac Avenue and Nettleton Avenue
North Haven, CT

Montowese Cemetery dates back to the early 18th century as evidenced by the graves of the Grannis Family (see list). Note that this cemetery began 80 years prior to the formation of North Haven, so early records are not available through the North Haven Town Clerk or the cemetery commissioner. It was inventoried by Charles R. Hale in 1937, as part of his efforts to document all of Connecticut cemeteries, wherein he petitioned the government for help and gained the assistance of the W.P.A.

Partial maps of the cemetery are available, one having been attempted in the 1890's and again in the 1920's and are held at the North Haven Town Clerk's office. Sections A, B, C, & D face Quinnipiac and the northeastern corner as it borders Nettleton Avenue (pictured above). Be advised that some early North Haven records were lost during the mid 1800's.
