MANEUVER CARD |
-Basic
maneuvers may be done by most every trainer or sport plane
-Some
trainers which are powered-sailplane type airplanes or those planes with
a very slow roll rate may have difficulty will rolls or maneuvers containing
partial rolls
-For
initial self teaching, do these maneuvers "BY THE NUMBERS," that is do
one step, then release stick and let it go back to the spring-loaded neutral
position, then do the next step
This
is what you will do before starting any aerobatic maneuver, except some
of the advanced maneuvers on other Maneuver Cards.
-The
Standard Set Up puts you in a safe position for doing aerobatics.
-The
Standard Set Up also starts you in a known position giving you a common
reference point to promote easier learning of aerobatics |
Here
is the STANDARD SET UP:
1.FULL
POWER. Virtually every aerobatic maneuver is started at full power.
This is especially true when you are learning with a trainer
2.FLIGHT
PATH PARALLEL TO RUNWAY. Start to your left, or right, and line
the plane up a comfortable distance out and parallel to the runway. Practice
from both directions
3.ONE
MISTAKE HIGH. This is high enough for you to make a mistake, end
up inverted, pull full up elevator and still safely clear the ground
Loops can be done by virtually all trainers
0.
STANDARD SET UP. Begin heading INTO the wind
1.
FULL UP ELEVATOR & HOLD. Use full up for your first try
2.
RELEASE up elevator when plane returns to level flight
-
If
plane is very slow and falls out of top of loop, you either need more elevator
travel or more power
-If
plane drops a wing or rolls out of the loop, you are probably stalling.
Use less up elevator for your next attempts
-If
plane loops easily, release a small amount of up control as plane approaches
inverted, and add it back in as you go down the back side
-"Play"
elevator to try to finish at the same altitude as the start.
Do
this maneuvers "BY THE NUMBERS"
0.
STANDARD SETUP. Do this maneuver down wind
1.
UP ELEVATOR & RELEASE. Raise nose about 30°and then release all
the elevator.
2.
FULL AILERON & HOLD UNTIL ROLL IS COMPLETE, then RELEASE
3.
UP ELEVATOR & RELEASE. Return to level flight
-If
plane pulls off to one side or barrel rolls, you probably didn't release
all of the up elevator. You must let stick center before starting next
part of maneuver
-If
plane rolls too slowly to complete roll, being 1 mistake high lets you
use up elevator to "bail out."
-This
is a turn around maneuver which keeps you the same distance out
-Do
this maneuver "BY THE NUMBERS."
0.
STANDARD SETUP. This maneuver may be done in either direction.
1.
UP ELEVATOR to RAISE NOSE 30° & RELEASE
2.
FULL AILERON to ROLL INVERTED & RELEASE
3.
UP ELEVATOR TO PULL THROUGH TO LEVEL FLIGHT & RELEASE
-Play
up elevator to finish at desired altitude
-Full
up elevator is usually not necessary or desired
-Common
errors are not letting stick center between parts of maneuver and pushing
down elevator, making the plane go upward
