Pilots desiring to fly motorgliders need to have a Glider Pilot's License with a "Self-Launch Endorsement" in their logbook according to the requirements of FAR 61.31(j)(1)(iii).
Advisory Circular 61-94
provides recommendations that may be used by glider pilots who desire to
transition into sailplanes or gliders with self-launching capability.
