What is AR?
Children were taken to the computer resource lab and
tested to get their general reading range for books to check out at the
library. Library books have already been identified and tabbed for students to
select based on their reading range. Each time a child reads a book in his/her
range, there will be a computer generated quiz for him/her to take to test
comprehension of the selection.
Children can earn points and prizes for acquired
points. I highly encourage children to participate in this program each year.
It is a great tool to increase reading comprehension. I will post our top point
leaders each week on this page. I will also include pictures of your children
reading. In past years, we have had several students earn lunch with Mrs. Capwell, gift certificates, and many other rewards for
their accomplishments and love of reading. I’m looking forward to another great
year of remarkable readers. Get ready to read, read, read…

What is Mrs.
Reed’s Accelerated Thinking Program?
The Accelerated Thinking Program is a newly implemented program I introduced to our class to encourage
increased recreational reading and promote the consistent use of higher level thinking skills. A
rubric was generated from an overview of the four highest levels of Bloom’s
Taxonomy. Participants will be recognized and rewarded for their
participation each month. Our top point earners will be listed below.

Children will
receive a folder with a copy of the different writing activities and grading
rubric. (see above)

Each child has this folder now!!
The following students have earned an Accelerated
Thinking Certificate and prize for their participation in the AT program.
Certificates are earned for the following increments of points:
20, 35, 50, 65, 80, 95, 110, 125, 140
etc…
