Week of September 2nd

We will start with learning…how we learn.  This is so important.  Will your child be a visual (MCHM00380_0000[1]MCHM00380_0000[1]), auditory (), or kinesthetic learner (MPj04118180000[1])?  Or will they fall under more than one area?  You’ll soon find out!!

_______________________________________________

Most of our children are visual learners. We do have a few auditory learners and kinesthetic learners. We even have a couple children who scored evenly in two categories.

Come check out our classroom door to see how your child learns…but equally important… how Mrs. Reed will be adapting lessons to stimulate the different types of learning styles…

Once we know how our children learn, it’s important to capitalize on their strengths!!!

Week of September 8th

 What is Egyptology?

~The branch of archaeology that specializes in the study of Egyptian civilization~

Mrs. Reed’s class has started learning about Egypt! We have explored the mummification process—

Students were amazed and stunned to learn how the Ancient Egyptians preserved their dead for the afterlife.

First, we discussed the process of mummification…

After announcement of death, the body was taken to be embalmed.

After the brain and other internal organs were removed they were individually mummified and stored in little coffins called canopic jars. There were four canopic jars, one for each of the organs. These jars were protected by the four sons of Horus.

Our class had the opportunity to create their very own canopic jar.

(Thank goodness for Michaels Arts and Craft store.. they have everything)

                                       ~Look at that detail~

An activity for all those kinesthetic learners…..

Week of September 15th~

Math.. Math… and more Math

We have started our Kings and Queens Math.

Students are given 3 minutes to complete 50 math addition equations.. Once they do so three times, they earn the title of King or Queen…

We have several students who have made it on our Kings & Queens Chart but the four children below have earned the title of king or Queen

Congratulations to: Alex, Abby, Madison, Josue, Kamy, and Gracie (absent the day of this pic) … You are all Kings and Queens of addition…

Our God

A big congratulations to Kyle… he has completed 50 addition problems in under 2 minutes…. WOW

Challenge Math Group

I have also started my challenge math group. The children listed below will be working on accelerated math skills and concepts. Children in this group will differ from time to time based on abilities and strengths…(right now, we have six students in this group, but there is not a cap on the number of children that can be in this group due to individual needs and abilities)

This challenge math group meets three times a week for 30 minutes each day…

First Group Consists of:

Matthew

Kyle

Gracie

Abby

Madison

Alex
