Habitats Lab

Our final lab gave students the opportunity to create a habitat of a specific animal. This “hands on approach” gave students insight to what an animal needs to adapt and survive.

Students had a variety of materials to select from when creating their habitat.

Parent volunteers assisted children through the structure making process.

Thank you to everyone who has offered their time to volunteer with our science labs this year. Children have enjoyed these learning experiences and they wouldn’t have been possible without your help.

We are lucky to have such a supportive group of parents! You’re the best!!!!

ABOUT THE SCIENCE LAB--

Our second graders will participate in several “hands on” lessons in our JBD science lab this year. The children love learning through experimenting and investigating in the lab. They will have the opportunity to observe, compare and contrast similarities and differences between objects, classify, and engage in activities that will help them learn more about science career awareness. Throughout the school year, I will be asking for parent volunteers to help out with our science labs. We have between 7-8 labs per year and they usually last about an hour. Each lab will cover the unit of study and language of the discipline (vocabulary) we are currently learning about. This class is very fortunate because we have a science lab coordinator in our room this year. Mrs. Feinman along with a few other wonderful ladies will organize and facilitate each lab. Let me know if you are interested in volunteering. We will need between 5-6 parent helpers each time. I will send home a letter about a week before our scheduled lab. There will be an attachment you can send back in if the lab fits into your schedule and you are interested in volunteering. Volunteers are placed on a first come basis. I take the first 5-6 volunteers I receive attachment forms from. In the past, I have had an overwhelming interest in our science labs. I think this is great!! I’m looking forward to all the fun we are going to have this year in our lab. It truly is an outstanding opportunity for each of children here at JBD.
