Welcome to Science!
This science page is designed to help students and parents become acquainted with Mrs. Allison's Science Class. The buttons above will give more specific information for your grade level.
Science is based on a students opportunity to discover new information as scientists. First, students will review existing ideas and discuss what they already know about a scientific concept. Each student's prior knowledge of a concept differs based on their own life experiences. Second, students will encounter experiments and explorations in which those ideas may be inadequate. These situations lead to conflict between existing ideas and new observations. This creates a situation in which students are receptive to new ideas that are more successful at explaining their observations. Comparisons of old and new ideas will help students form a consistent set of ideas. Through discovery students will learn and apply concepts of science.
During the year students will develop a firm set of skills
including:
Metric Measurement
Science Safety
Test Taking Strategies
Technology Skills
Science Equipment Use
Cooperative Discussion
