10 Things to know to help your student succeed in science:
1) Science Notebooks
Students will maintain a Science Notebook in a spiral notebook. It is expected
that each student carry the notebook
EVERY SCIENCE CLASS day.
When students enter the class they will copy down the table of contents with
Assignment title and date. Work for that day will begin on the page listed.
Check your student’s spiral Science Notebook. Look for new entries in the Table
of Contents and work on the pages listed.
Students will have a
Notebook Check Quiz every 2-3 weeks to
assess their notebooks

Student Planners
Students should be writing down and maintaining a list of assignments in their
Student Planners. Students must carry their planners EVERYDAY. When students
enter the class they will copy down the Class Agenda and HOMEWORK from
the board to put in their planner. Planners must be signed weekly by parents.
Students will have their planners checked in Advisory,
3) E-mail Updates
Mrs. Allison sends out a update about what is going on in class every 1-2 weeks.
The updates will include tests, quiz, and project deadlines, Information about
fieldtrips or upcoming events. This is a way for me to get information out to
you quickly. Please sign up to get E-mailed updates by filling out the form
attached to your student's syllabus or by e-mailing Mrs. Allison. Please include your students name
and grade in the e-mail. NOTE: I will not release your e-mail address to anyone.
You will receive the e-mail as a Blind copy.
4) Mrs. Allison’s Science Webpage
Visit Mrs. Allison Science page to get information about the class such as a
list of the Homework, class activities, overview of the course. Students can
enjoy fun Math and Science Games as well as get access to class computer
activities, research, and On-line Textbooks.
5) HOMEWORK
Students will be
assigned homework as needed. If students do not finish their class work while in
class it is expected that they will complete the assignments at home. Students
should have 15-20 minutes of homework Monday-Thursday. Students should expect to
do science homework on nights they may not have had science class. Generally,
there is no homework on the weekends.
6) Absences, Make-ups, and Tutoring
After and absence, have students make up
work promptly.
Labs and Tests must be
made up on Tuesday after school or by appointment.
Tutoring and Make-ups
are available every Tuesday from 2:15-3:10 p.m.
7) Grade and Progress Checks
Grades can be accessed by signing up for Parent Connection
through the Main Office. Once you have a username and password, you may access
your student’s grades at anytime at
https://dwa.sis.sandi.net/parentconnect. You may also
ask for periodic
progress reports by e-mail or a note with your student. Mrs. Allison will send
the report home with the student 24 hours after receiving request.
8) Communication
If you have questions, concerns, or just want information to help your student,
please e-mail Mrs. Allison. It
is the best form of communication and I can usually get back to you with in a
day.
9) Volunteers
There is always plenty to do through out the year. Please e-mail me if you are able to help.
10) Extra Credit
Extra Credit is rare and may not be used as a substitute for incomplete or
missing work. Extra Credit it is not a fix for not completing work. It is
expected that students complete every assignment on-time.
