While gathering information for the book, Weekend Getaways in Louisiana, I hiked and traveled by car, horseback, bicycle, and buckboard wagon through Louisiana's cities, towns and villages. I explored her picturesque bayous, lakes, and rivers by canoe, airboat, motorboat, pontoon boat and steamboat. I visited the grassy hill country just south of the Arkansas border, a sandy chenier island off the Louisiana coastline, and most of the intriguing countryside in between.
In the spring, I saw carpets of lavendar waterlilies in the Atchafalaya Basin roll out before me as far as I could see. In the fall, I savored the old-world ambience of Natchitoches, the first settlement in the Louisiana Purchase territory.
Pathways bordered by brilliant flowers enticed me to walk through peaceful gardens, and gigantic oak trees sheltered me in their shade. Cajun musicians set my toes tapping with their songs, restaurateurs tempted me with spicy Louisiana dishes, and new friends greeted me with broad smiles.
In the Feature Story section of these pages I will tell you about some of the delightful people I met and places I found alongside Louisiana's meandering byways and bayous. You will also find an archive of previous stories.
I hope that you will bookmark this web site and visit often to learn more about the mysterious beauty and intriguing diversity of Louisiana.
