Community-wide Standards for Interpretation
Action Strategy #3
Convene a sub-committee of the MTI Leadership Group who will, along with local experts, systematically develop community MTI standards and guidelines for implementation.
After research and recommendations from the Standards & Assessment Committee, the Medical Translation & Interpretation Leadership Group unanimously voted to endorse and recommend as the community standards the National Standards for Interpreters in Health Care from the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care.
The MTI Group launched a campaign to raise awareness about the Standards and encourage organizations that deal with MTI issues to endorse them as well. The campaign is reaching out to several organizations in Lincoln as well as major health systems and professional organizations in greater Nebraska. A second campaign was launched to target individuals working as health care interpreters. If your organization or you as an individual would like to recognize and endorse the National Standards of Practice for Health Care Interpreters, please email us for more information at mtigroup@cox.net.
