MTI Leadership Team Meeting Notes February 21, 2006

Introductions
- J. introduced two new members to MTI Leadership Group, Sharon Baker from Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska and Christine Stroud of the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Services.
Staffing Report
Helen Fagan reported that the Staffing Committee emailed the MTI Project Coordinator job posting to several listservs including the Human Services Federation, New Americans Task Force, CLAS Coalition, and BryanLGH job posting sources. As of Tuesday, February 21, T.J. has received four applications for the position. The position closes on Friday, March 3. The Staffing committee will meet the week of March 6 to review applications.
Committee Report: Survey
Joan Anderson reported that the Lancaster County Medical Society faxed the MTI survey along with a cover letter to 139 physicians’ offices and got 89 (64% return rate) responses. Joan will share data gathered by the survey with the MTI Leadership Group at the March meeting. T.J., Joan, and Monica will modify the survey before administering it to first responders, dentists, and pharmacists.
NCIHC Standards Presentation
Suzy Prenger facilitated a PowerPoint presentation of the National Council of Interpreters in Health Care (NCIHC) Standards. The Standards Committee is recommending that the MTI Leadership Group endorse the NCIHC standards as the ones our community adopts. The presentation provoked discussion regarding the complex issues of interpreter standards of practice in health care settings. T.J. encouraged the MTI Leadership Group members to thoroughly review the standards and forward him any questions or concerns.
Statewide Summit
The Summit Planning Committee is working on a CDC grant proposal to support four statewide conferences on CLAS issues. The grant is due March 6, 2006.
