The meeting was called to order by Kit Boesch.
Lori Seibel introduced Jeanne Walker from Rep. Jeff Fortenberry’s Office. Jeff Fortenberry is interested in the issue of Medicaid reimbursement and would like to continue to send a staff person to understand more about the issue.
We discussed the budget, identified startup costs, discretionary funds and money for annual stakeholder luncheon. We discussed how some of the conference/NATI money would be used. Joan Anderson moved that we use $500 to give scholarships to Lincoln area interpreters to attend the annual NATI conference, Helen Fagan seconded, we unanimously agreed. We also agreed to donate $25.00 to support the New Americans Task Force website.
We discussed the proposed MTI logo and voted, narrowing it down to the top three, and decided to have Pat Carlson take a look at them and provide input about color, size, appropriateness, etc.
Suzy Prenger as Co-Chair of Standards & Assessment reported that a letter has been sent to NATF and CHE asking that the NCIHC Standards Practice be endorsed by them. She asked for the group’s input on the direction to go with the assessment issue. It was decided that the committee would make several suggestions for assessment, not just one.
The Chair of the Public & Policymaker Awareness committee was absent, so committee members reported that at their first meeting they identified some important questions that need to be answered and that we need to identify champions and do some fact finding to start working on getting Medicaid Reimbursement.
Joan Anderson shared that she sent out the survey to emergency responders and that it is too soon to tell what kind of response we’ll get and that in a few days the survey would go out to Pharmacists and Dentists, over 200 of each.
The issues surrounding strategy #6 were discussed during the Budget review, and that is that the MTI group should not be working on creating a dispatch center, but that they could contribute funds to other efforts that enhance MTI services in the Lincoln area.
Kit Boesch read an announcement from the Downtown Physician’s group that they have hired a certified Vietnamese interpreter.
The date for the next meeting is Tuesday, September 19, 12:00 p.m. at SECC—Continuing Education—301 South 68th Street
There is no July or August meeting.
