Navy Nurse Collection

Laura Cobb, 1910 graduate of MHS, joined the Navy as a nurse in 1918.

She was stationed in Manila in 1942 when the Japanese captured the island of Luzon. She was head nurse in prison camp at Los Banos when rescued after 37 months captivity. This collection was requested by the Smithsonian after it was given to the Mulvane Museum.

WWI & WWII Memorabilia

Since 9/11 this display is more meaningful. Several branches of the service from WWI and WWII are represented in this display.

VASELINE GLASS

Vaseline Glass was primarily made before WWII and one of the primary ingredients used to make the glass was uranium. When placed under a black light (or ultraviolet rays), Vaseline glass will "glow" or fluoresce. The high energy emissions of electrons from the black light cause the uranium oxide particles in the Vaseline glass to become unstable thereby causing this fluorescence.

Railroad Items

Mulvane began as a rail town in 1879 and many railroad tools and other mementos are on display at the museum.
