Desdemona grew up in what is now known as the Blue Shard, as the daughter of Dara and Corwin. She spent the first part of her childhood in Chaos, with her family, but after she acquired at least rudimentary control over her shapeshifting abilities, she was shipped off to join a number of cousins in Arden, to be the ward of her Uncle Julian. Being in Amber wasn't always easy on her. Aside from the lack of fellow shapeshifters, she was never quite fully at ease as one of the only Logrus Initiates to walk in a world of Pattern users. Julian, his crew, and Weyland all managed to make her feel welcome, however, and she developed a particular fondness for her uncle and the large smith.
In most of the shards, Dara and Corwin are her parents, quite infatuated with each other; though while her mother in other shards does always seem to be Dara, it isn't necessarily Corwin who sired her. Corwin was a father who inspired awe, worship, and a liberal dose of respectful fear and daughterly affection. Dara and Desdemona get along well, as they seem to understand each other's ways reasonably well, and probably in part due to Desdemona's extended stay in Arden. She also has two brothers, both of them older: Merlin, and Despil. She is close to both of them, and especially prone to hanging out with Despil.
After the shattering of the Jewel of Judgement led to the world of Shards that now exists, Desdemona chose to settle in Red-Violet, a world which much needed some stabilization and leadership. There was much speculation about her relationship with Osric, with whom the Desdemona known to that world was rumored to be having an affair. Publicly, nothing has shown that rumor to be currently still applicable or not.
