2008 Community Recycling Survey Results

A total of 1,408 surveys were returned to City Hall enclosed with utility payments. Not all respondents answered each question. This is an increase of 189 respondents from the 2006 survey.

The following are results of the surveys:

1. Did you know that Mustang has a drop-off recycling program each Saturday morning at the public works yard?

A total of 1,408 respondents answered this question. A total of 869 respondents, 62%, were aware of the drop-off program, as opposed to 539 respondents, 38%, were not aware.

When the 2006 survey was sent in September 2006, the recycling center had not yet opened. The drop off recycling center opened late October 2066.

2. Have you used Mustang’s recycling center?

A total of 1,406 respondents answered this question. A total of 444 respondents, 32%, indicated they have used the facility, while 962 respondents, 68%, reported no use of the facility.

3. If a weekly curbside pickup required an additional fee between $2.00 and $3.00 per month on my utility bill, I would support such an increase.

A total of 1,394 respondents answered this question. A total of 658 respondents, 47%, indicated they would pay a small additional fee for curbside recycling, as opposed to 736 respondents, 53%, indicated they would oppose an additional fee.

This is an 11% increase in 24 months.

4. I would serve as a volunteer for 1 – 2 hours a month at the recycling center. If yes, please give your name/phone/email.

A total of 1,340 respondents answered this question. A total of 90, 6.71%, indicated they would volunteer, although many failed to write in their name or contact information. The remaining 1,250 respondents, 93.28%, expressed no desire to volunteer.

5. If Mustang participated in the Oklahoma City disposal program, I would transport my household hazardous waste to the site at SW 15th & Portland.

A total of 1,372 respondents answered this question. A total of 907 respondents, 66%, indicated they would utilize the Oklahoma City disposal facility. Alternatively, 465 respondents, 34%, indicated they would not utilize the facility.

In 2006, 33% indicated a willingness to transport HHW to Midwest City.

6. I would participate in a mobile household hazardous waste collection event in Mustang. If yes, how often should this event be held each year?

A total of 1,333 respondents answered this question. A total of 934 respondents, 70%, indicated they would participate in a mobile collection program for their household hazardous waste, while 399 respondents, 30%, indicated they would not participate.

7. I am willing to pay additional fees to dispose of my household hazardous waste?

A total of 1,366 respondents answered this question. A total of 489 respondents, 36%, indicated they would be willing to pay additional fees to dispose of household hazardous waste, while 877 respondents, 64%, were opposed to paying additional fees.
