| Help Keep Our Center
Clean
January 3, 2008
Mustang Recycles was closed December 22 and December 29 to allow
our volunteers to spend holidays with their families. We notified
our customers via newspaper articles, e-mail, a handout in early
December, signs posted at the center, and verbal messages.
When
we checked the center on January 1, numerous bags had been left
around the bins. Some of the bags were open and their contents
scattered around the park. Cardboard was also left in front of,
between, and behind the cardboard bins.
The City of Mustang is concerned about the bags, trash and cardboard
scattered around the recycling center because of complaints they
have been receiving.
Please remember recyclables cannot be left outside the bins if
the center is not open. Bags of recyclables left in the area are
untended for a week and may be torn open (often by wildlife) or
are blown open, scattering items around the park. Glass and tin
recyclables may be broken or have sharp edges, creating hazards
for children, pets and wildlife.
Paper and cardboard can be placed in the bins 24 hours a day.
We are aware that the amount of cardboard brought for recycling
has far exceeded the amount of space in our three bins; this issue
will be addressed as soon as feasible. Until then, please do not
put cardboard outside the bins; the OEMA hauler cannot pick up
cardboard unless it is in one of the bins and it usually ends
up discarded as trash.
The
City of Mustang provides operating funds for Mustang Recycles
and allows us to use Wild Horse Park as a facility. We are concerned
that if the City continues to receive complaints about trash and
hazards to park users, they may opt to close the recycling center.
The response of our customers over the last year has been phenomenal.
We have had 2700 visits since we opened, with an average of 70
visits per shift. We could not have succeeded without our recycling
customers; please help us continue to succeed by observing our
center’s hours.
A recycling survey should be sent later this spring with your
utility bill. Please consider supporting curbside recycling!
